Nineteen fifty-six was the year of the 175 cc: a classic pre-war engine size which was newly in favour due to racing ties. Normale, Sport and Super Sport versions were produced, as well as a Regularity model. The Gilera 175 Sport was manufactured from 1957 to 1960 and featured a 172.5 cc air-cooled four-stroke vertical single-cylinder engine, with rods and rocker arms valvetrain and Dell’Orto MB 22 B carburettor, putting out 9.5 hp. Structurally, it was composed of an open tubular duplex cradle, front suspension with hydraulic fork and rear suspension with a swingarm and two hydraulic shocks.
