Landmark Alfa Romeo Comes To Sale

Iconic 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider restoration offered at no reserve at Historics autumn sale on 23rd September

An iconic piece of Alfa Romeo motoring history – a 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider - provides a tantalising restoration opportunity when it comes to auction at Historics’ open-to-public autumn on Saturday 23rd September at Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire.

The Buckinghamshire-based auctioneer is well on the way to assembling a fascinating entry of 180 fine and varied classics for this, its 61st sale, with the right-hand drive Alfa Romeo very much setting the tone.

Milan’s master coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera – whose captivating design credentials include the Aston Martin DB5 - was responsible for the timeless lines of this flagship Alfa Romeo of the 60’s.

But it’s not only the design of this rare, right-hand drive model - supplied with a much sought-after factory hard-top - that make it so collectible as this is an example of the last Alfa Romeo to be powered by an inline six-cylinder, twin-cam engine.

Producing a lusty 145bhp, robust torque, captivating soundtrack and a five-speed gearbox, the Spider’s exhilarating menu propelled it to 124mph and secured it as one of the finest grand touring cars of the period, offering exceptional performance, Italian coachbuilt style and high levels of comfort and luxury.

The car on offer by Historics - enticingly at no reserve - provides a rare opportunity to restore to its former glory an example of this evocative Alfa Romeo.  In barn-find condition, it bears the signs of a near 25-year slumber in storage from 1999, during which it was virtually untouched. Believed to be complete and in its original specification, prospective owners can be reassured that the engine turns over by hand.

JMA 240C comes to sale with sizeable history files confirming its two owners from new and details of a previous sympathetic restoration in the early 1990s, plus the original buff logbook, the original service book, sales brochures, manuals and previous MoT test certificates.

This 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider is one of 180 fine and varied classics coming to sale at Historics major autumn auction on Saturday, 23rd September at Bicester Heritage.

Final entries are being invited.  For full information and to register to bid - in-hall, by phone and online - call 01753 639170 or see www.historics.co.uk
