Gold On Wheels: Multi Million Euro Collection Unearthed

After a decade of seclusion, a treasure trove of 22 unique vintage cars emerged from the shadows of an old warehouse in Brussels, sparking fervent excitement among car enthusiasts. Unlike typical discoveries in sheds, these exclusive sports cars from the 70s, 80s, and 90s were remarkably well-preserved, defying the natural elements that often plague such finds. Valued at millions of euros, the collection includes Porsches and Ferraris, earning the moniker "gold on wheels" from Xavier Molenare of Oldtimerfarm in Aalter.

Hidden behind a wooden sliding door for over ten years on the first floor of a central Brussels warehouse, these automotive gems were shielded from the ravages of time by tarps, preserving their pristine condition. The discovery, labeled an "epic find," carries an air of mystery. Believed to belong to an industrialist who assembled the collection years ago, the owner, now residing outside the country, left the cars untouched, opting for anonymity.

The assortment boasts a notable presence of Ferrari Testarossas, reminiscent of the iconic American police series Miami Vice, and a robust representation of Porsche 911 models, including rare air-cooled Turbo and "S" variants known for their speed during their era. Amidst the impressive lineup, the spotlight shines on the rarest find, a Ferrari 365 GT4 BB in a unique yellow hue—one of only ten ever produced globally, possibly the sole survivor in its unrestored, exceptional condition, according to Molenare.

The current focus lies on restoring the cars to roadworthy status, involving meticulous cleaning and replacement of components such as engines and pipes. Despite the passage of time, the interior and bodywork have surprisingly endured, showcasing the resilience and enduring allure of these automotive treasures.

Nigel Havers Cars Go To Auction On 24th March 2024

LEADING BRITISH ACTOR, NIGEL HAVERS, IS SELLING TWO OF HIS CARS WITH CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS

At the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show on Sunday 24th March 2024

1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-Litre Series 2 Roadster. Estimate: £60,000 - £70,000

Classic Car Auctions are delighted to present to auction two cars from the personal Collection of British Actor Nigel Havers, long term client and friend of the auction house. The cars are a 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-Litre Series 2 Roadster and a 2013 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec and will be presented by Nigel himself at the Sunday Auction at the Practical Classics and Restoration Show Sale, NEC Birmingham.

Nigel Havers is seen as something of a British national treasure. He was born as the younger son of Michael Havers, QC, a Conservative MP for Wimbledon, Attorney General and Lord High Chancellor of England. Nigel Havers film roles include Lord Andrew Lindsay in the 1981 British film Chariots of Fire which earned him a BAFTA nomination; as Rd. Rawlins in the Empire of the Sun; and as Ronny in A Passage to India. Television roles include Tom Latimer in the British TV comedy series Don’t Wait Up and Lewis Archer in Coronation Street between 2009 and 2019 and of course The Charmer.

Mr Havers now hosts the BBCs The Bidding Room in which members of the public get expert advice on selling their antiques and collectables to a panel five dealers who then battle each other to buy items brought in by the public. So, he is no stranger to the auction world.

He is also a proud advocate of classic car motoring and the list of vehicles he has owned is extensive – including a Ford Anglia that was his first car, an MGB, and his most recent purchase – a 2010 Bentley Continental GT.

His 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-Litre Series 2 Roadster is a very attractive example of this classic British icon. Original RHD UK supplied Series 2 Roadster with a manual gearbox. Super smooth Straight Six 4.2 litre giving 240 bhp and a top speed of 151 mph, some going for 1970. Stunning looking in Signal Red with a Black leather interior and Black soft top and sitting on chrome wires.

It comes to sale with a lovely history file and has been fastidiously maintained. Recently the total rear end was rebuilt including the prop shaft joints and the car had the benefit of a brake up-grade. The E-Type had a repaint some three years ago and now “punches above its weight,” says Simon Langsdale who consigned the car.

2013 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec – Estimated: £12,000 - £15,000

Nigel Havers second car in this sale is the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec which is estimated to sell for £12,000 - £15,000. This topflight, S-Class Mercedes limousine in Obsidian Black with a black leather interior is powered by the V6 3.0 diesel engine giving an eager driver 245 bhp under the right foot which will propel this majestic car to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds.

Showing just 63,000 miles and backed by a service history it was previously owned by Mr Haver's mother who was chauffeured in this particular car. It is offered at a very sensible guide given its quality and celebrity provenance.

Nigel will be there at the Auction and will be introducing his cars to the sale. More details about both these two cars and the other 220 lots in the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show Sale can be found at www.classiccarauctions.co.uk.
