Princely E-Type Tops Historics Sale

Princely E-Type heads captivating Historics summer sale

Saturday 19 July, Windsorview Lakes, Berkshire

Historics’ annual pilgrimage to its rural Windsorview Lakes auction location in Berkshire on Saturday 19th July is reflected vivaciously in a mouth-watering selection of 170+ hugely varied classics.

The peak of provenance is occupied by the 1965 Series I Jaguar E-Type Coupé, first owned by HRH Prince Michael of Kent. A passionate motoring enthusiast, the Prince is said to have enjoyed the car to the full – think an autobahn-storming 150mph – whilst with the 11th Hussars in Germany. This immaculate motor car comes to sale with a wonderful and very comprehensive history file. Not to be missed.

On the same level of perfection is a 1959 ‘GT Specification’ Aston Martin DB4 Series I. Following a comprehensive restoration in recent years to the tune of over £220,000, the car is immensely collectible whilst promising pure enjoyment at the wheel.

Talking enjoyment, rarity appeal and collectability, an ultra-low mileage 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic is very much a star entry of the auction. No. 85 of just 250 examples, it has travelled just 31 miles since first registered 15 years ago. It joins a further selection of ten of Stuttgart’s finest here at the sale, including the ultimate Boxster...a rare 2015 Porsche Boxster Spyder, complete with carbon seats and brakes and featuring the super-shrill 3.8-litre flat six developing a mighty 375bhp.

The genre of ‘supercars’ includes models that become as collectible as many an older classic, and that is certainly true of the right-hand drive, super-rare 1994 Lamborghini Diablo VT with only 8,000 miles to its name. Sold by Historics to the present owner at a previous auction some years ago, the car has been thoroughly pampered and comes to market with its glorious V12 in peak condition and ready to shrill and thrill.

Meanwhile, an almost unbelievable 70 years the Lamborghini’s senior is a stirring wind-in-the-hair 1924 Bentley 3-Litre Tourer by Freestone & Webb, carrying ‘W.O.’s legacy with enormous aplomb. At the other end of the pre-war price spectrum is a pair of early 20th-century Ford Model T ‘Tin Lizzies’ that are sure to capture huge attention - one a gem of a pick-up, the other with a fascinating history of use in many films.

Classic BMWs are relatively rare at auction, but the Historics team has put that to rights with a fascinating selection. Take a close look at the 1974 BMW 2002Tii enticingly offered without reserve, and spectacular examples of the achingly attractive 1994 BMW 850 Ci and 1977 BMW 3.0 CSi.

Staying with BMW, Historics has possibly the lowest mileage 2004 BMW X5 3.0i you are ever likely to come across. A shade over 14,000 miles says it all, with a very attractive estimate, single ownership and superb condition. The very same can be said of the 2004 BMW M3 Convertible. A holy grail manual gearbox, and again some 14,000 miles since new, makes this feisty soft top very collectible - Together, a perfect duo for the garage!

The Ford Motor Company’s motorsport legacy is peerless and Historics is offering an example of one of the most important models in its history - the 1976 Ford Escort MK.II RS1800. Just 24,000 miles since new, one of only 109 examples manufactured, one family ownership since 1977 and originally a Ford press car says it all about the unique value of this superbly-presented car.

If sumptuous luxury is on your agenda, a 2004 Maybach 62 won’t disappoint, sporting a wonderful specification right down to a fridge and silver champagne flutes and tumblers.

Staying on the luxury agenda, the Historics sale features one of the very few remaining right-hand drive 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupé models. With a ground-up restoration behind it, this supremely elegant tourer is an experience to be thoroughly savoured.

And if the purity of British sports car enjoyment hits the spot, the 1959 Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I BT7 on sale is definitely not to be missed. It’s received a staggering six-year £200,000 restoration with specialist Bill Rawles, and the jewel beneath is a wonderfully prepped 3-litre engine developing no less than 215bhp at the wheels, driven through a six-speed gearbox. Simply stunning. And don’t miss not one, nor two, but THREE charming Austin Healey Sprites entered, one benefitting from upgrades and a restoration costing some £40,000.

Finally, classic Americana muscle is well represented, with the likes of a rumbling 7.3 litre 1973 Pontiac Trans Am 455 and an authentic ‘Bullitt’ tribute 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, whilst a 1956 Lincoln Premiere in ‘white over lavender’ coachwork, the very same as that of the model owned by Elvis Presley, is sure to command attention to the max.

Three full viewing days precede Historics' July 19th ‘Summer Serenade’ live auction at its attractive rural setting of Windsorview Lakes, located just minutes from Junction 5 of the M4 motorway.
