1923 Hispano-Suiza H6B Cabriolet: Pre-War Elegance Pinnacle

Few marques capture the grandeur and sophistication of the early motoring era quite like Hispano-Suiza. Renowned for their engineering brilliance and artistry, these cars embodied luxury long before it became a marketing term. The magnificent 1923 Hispano-Suiza H6B Cabriolet, currently offered by Classic Promenade (Harry Clark, USA) — one of our exclusive advertising partners — stands as a breathtaking example of craftsmanship, heritage, and timeless design.

Now available on Classic Motors For Sale, this concours-winning restoration represents one of the finest surviving Hispano-Suizas in the world today.

A Storied Past Reborn

Chassis 10734 began life in June 1923, originally purchased by Albert Venot in France. While details of its first body are lost to history, it returned to the factory in 1929 for a rebuild and received its current Fernandez et Darrin cabriolet coachwork in 1932 — a masterpiece of proportion and elegance that defined the Art Deco era.

By the 1950s, the car had fallen into disrepair in a French salvage yard. Yet, as with so many great classics, its story did not end there. Over the following decades, it passed through the hands of dedicated collectors in France, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States before being acquired by noted enthusiast Sam Mann in 2015. Mann commissioned a full, concours-level restoration that returned the Hispano-Suiza to its former glory.

Today, under the care of Classic Promenade, the car stands as an exquisite example of what makes the marque so revered, a blend of artistry, innovation, and enduring beauty.

Design & Detail: Where Art Meets Engineering

Coachwork & Exterior

The Fernandez et Darrin body is a statement in grace. Painted in deep black with polished nickel accents, it features sweeping fenders, dual coach doors, twin windscreens, and an elegant cabriolet profile that remains as captivating today as it was in the 1930s. The signature Flying Stork mascot long a Hispano-Suiza symbol, adorns the hood, signifying the marque’s aeronautical roots.

Interior Luxury

Inside, light-grey leather upholstery with black piping complements rich mahogany trim and an etched nickel instrument panel with Jaeger gauges. Every element reflects Hispano-Suiza’s obsession with perfection, from the cognac-brown headliner to the finely detailed switchgear.

Power & Precision

Under the bonnet lies the legendary 6.6-litre inline-six, designed by aviation engineer Marc Birkigt. The engine’s aluminum block, overhead camshaft, and seven-bearing crankshaft were revolutionary at the time. The inclusion of servo-assisted four-wheel brakes provided stopping power far ahead of its contemporaries — proof that Hispano-Suiza built not just luxury, but leadership.

A Collectible Masterpiece

For collectors, this H6B Cabriolet represents the height of pre-war motoring. Its provenance, meticulous restoration, and stunning presentation place it among the most desirable cars of its kind.

Offered at £1,379,664.20 (approx. €1.59M / US$1.85M), it reflects the enduring demand for coachbuilt masterpieces that define the history of motoring.

Cars like this are the cornerstone of serious collections, investments not only in craftsmanship but in cultural heritage.
