Chef Ramsay’s Fast & Furious Garage

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is known worldwide for his fiery television persona and Michelin-starred restaurants, but away from the kitchen he has another great passion: classic and high-performance cars. Over the years, the British restaurateur has quietly assembled an impressive collection that reflects both his appreciation for automotive design and his love of driving some of the world’s most exciting machines.

Ramsay’s garage features several rare classics from Ferrari, a marque he has long admired. Among the highlights is the legendary Ferrari F40, one of the most iconic supercars ever produced. Built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, the F40 is revered for its raw performance and minimalist, race-inspired engineering, qualities that appeal to Ramsay’s straightforward, no-nonsense approach.

Another prized Ferrari in his collection is the elegant Ferrari 275 GTB/4, a 1960s grand tourer widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Ramsay has spoken about his admiration for the craftsmanship and timeless styling of Ferrari’s classic era, and the 275 perfectly represents the blend of performance and artistry that defines many vintage Italian sports cars.

His passion for the brand extends into more modern classics as well, including the highly sought-after Ferrari LaFerrari and the open-top Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta. These limited-production hypercars combine cutting-edge hybrid technology with extraordinary performance, showing that Ramsay’s collection spans both heritage and innovation.

While Ferraris form the backbone of the collection, Ramsay has also been seen enjoying other standout machines, including models from Porsche and Aston Martin. For Ramsay, the appeal of classic cars goes beyond ownership, it’s about the experience of driving, the craftsmanship behind each vehicle, and preserving some of the most remarkable automobiles ever built.

Forty Years of the Jaguar XJ40

The Jaguar XJ (XJ40) marked a major turning point for Jaguar Cars when it was introduced in 1986, representing the most technologically advanced XJ saloon the company had produced to date. Sleeker, more modern and packed with electronic innovations, the XJ40 carried the famous XJ lineage into a new era while maintaining the traditional blend of performance, comfort and unmistakable British luxury that had defined the marque for decades.

Developed over many years, the XJ40 was a thoroughly re-engineered car, featuring new straight-six engines, improved suspension and a more angular design that reflected the changing tastes of the late 1980s. Inside, however, the familiar Jaguar hallmarks remained: polished walnut veneer, supple leather upholstery and a cabin designed to cocoon occupants in quiet refinement.

As enthusiasts celebrate the model’s milestone anniversaries, the XJ40 is increasingly recognised as an important chapter in Jaguar’s history. It was the car that helped modernise the brand and laid the groundwork for later luxury saloons, bridging the gap between traditional Jaguars and the more technologically sophisticated models that followed in the 1990s.

For many owners and collectors today, the XJ40 represents the last of a distinctive generation of classic Jaguars, cars that combined old-world craftsmanship with emerging modern engineering. Its crisp styling, distinctive digital instrumentation on early models and smooth straight-six powertrains have earned it a growing following among enthusiasts.

Forty years on, the XJ40 is gaining the appreciation it deserves. Once simply regarded as an ageing luxury saloon, it is now celebrated as a classic in its own right, an elegant reminder of a transformative era for Jaguar and a car that continues to deliver understated charm and effortless motoring.
