Hilton & Moss is proud to announce a 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 “Semi-Lightweight" available for sale following a full recommission and a class-winning shakedown at Goodwood

Originating from a 1963 OTS, this car was reimported from the United States in 1991 to compete in motorsport and reconfigured to FIA Appendix K 1965 Semi-Lightweight specification. Over the last 30 years, the E-Type has been driven and developed by keen racing enthusiasts, retaining its timeless appeal that has captivated motorsport enthusiasts and racing drivers for decades.

Having undergone a thorough no-expense-spared rebuild in 2015 and a full recommission and engine upgrade by Hilton & Moss in 2025, this E-Type has been consistently refined throughout its lifetime to provide a superior experience and performance. Constructed to exacting standards, this E-Type is primed for racing, equipped with features such as an FIA Roll Cage, lightweight hardtop with rear ventilation, and Perspex side and rear windows.

In comparison to a road legal E-Type, the Semi-Lightweight E-Type is crafted for motorsport and substantially modified to provide peak performance on track. Designed to excel at speed and power, extensive use of lightweight aluminium throughout the bodywork enabled a substantial reduction in weight that aided agility and handling when racing. Maintaining its steel monocoque tub (‘Semi’), the car's bonnet, doors, lower rear wings and boot were re-engineered using aluminium and the rear arches widened to accommodate wider rear tyres for improved grip and cornering performance.

To enhance its racing potential further, the E-Type’s 3.8-litre Crosthwaite & Gardiner specification wide-angle head race engine has been rebuilt by Riedling & Mouser and now produces over 370 bhp, a significant upgrade from the standard version's 265 bhp. The engine is mated to a Dennis Welch-built straight-cut competition 4-speed gearbox. In addition to these powerhouses under the bonnet, the E-Type has undergone suspension upgrades and geometry refinement to enable optimal performance on track.

Accompanied by a comprehensive history file, this classic endurance race car is a compelling addition to any serious motorsport enthusiast's collection. Fully prepared for participation in Pre-'66 GT racing events, Hilton & Moss’s expert team have applied meticulous attention to detail across the entire vehicle, ensuring a perfectly restored high-performance historic race car that can continue its racing legacy. For those looking to travel further afield, this Jaguar is road registered and eligible for rallies such as the Tour Auto and Coupe des Alpes for international adventures.

If you’re looking for a “Semi-Lightweight” E-Type that exudes power, prowess and performance, look no further. The Hilton & Moss team have worked to transform this racing machine into the masterpiece of engineering that Jaguar E-Types are renowned for. This iconic car will be unstoppable on track in the hands of an experienced classic driver looking for a step up.” – Mark O’Neill, Motorsports Manager

As classic Jaguar specialists, Hilton & Moss’s team share a unique combination of both race and restoration experience which is strengthened by their own Pre’63 Jaguar E-Type race car, run as part of the Hilton & Moss Motorsport Team. Combined with their state-of-the-art workshop facilities and the result is the ability to build not only competitive race cars, but correctly presented, perfectly restored and period-correct motor cars. Committed to historic racing, Hilton & Moss can provide bespoke race and track upgrades, preparation and support for individuals keen to enter the world of motorsport or to participate in international rallies.

This 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 “Semi-Lightweight” is now available for viewing and demonstration at Hilton & Moss’s Bishop’s Stortford showroom.

About Hilton & Moss

Hilton & Moss was established from a pure and unwavering passion for performance and classic vehicles, a vision brought to life by our director, Peter Hilton. This dedication to automotive excellence was sparked by the remarkable success of our sister company, Hilton Coachworks, which Peter founded in 1984. Renowned for its craftsmanship and attention to detail in vehicle repair and bodywork, Hilton Coachworks laid the foundation for what was to come.

In 2001, driven by a lifelong enthusiasm for high-performance motoring, Peter took the next step by launching Castle Sportscars, a main dealership for both Lotus and TVR. This venture not only allowed him to immerse himself further in the world of motorsport-inspired engineering but also provided a natural progression towards more specialist automotive endeavours.

Building on this momentum, Hilton & Moss was officially founded in 2010 as a dedicated restoration division, with a singular focus on the meticulous preservation and enhancement of classic and high-performance cars. The business quickly earned a reputation for its exceptional craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and respect for automotive heritage.

In more recent years, Hilton & Moss has undergone a significant phase of growth and development. We proudly relocated to our 125,000 sq ft state-of-the-art, purpose-built showroom and workshop facility, designed to accommodate our expanding range of services and to provide a truly immersive experience for our clients. As part of this expansion, the business also acquired Bespoke Performance, one of the United Kingdom’s most respected specialists in TVR and Noble vehicles, further strengthening our capabilities and expertise within the performance car sector.

Today, Hilton & Moss offers a comprehensive suite of services including the sale, restoration, servicing, storage and parts sales for a wide variety of classic and performance vehicles.

Honda S2000: The High-Revving Icon Everyone Now Wants

The Honda S2000 has evolved from a niche enthusiast’s choice into one of the most sought-after modern classics of the 21st century. Launched in 1999 to celebrate Honda’s 50th anniversary, the S2000 was designed as a pure driver’s car; lightweight, rear-wheel drive, and engineered with a level of precision that quickly set it apart from its contemporaries. At a time when many sports cars were becoming heavier and more complex, the S2000 stayed true to a simple, high-revving formula.

Central to its appeal is the remarkable F20C engine, a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder that became legendary for its stratospheric redline and specific output. Producing around 240 horsepower without forced induction, it was one of the highest-revving production engines ever built, delivering its power in a thrilling, linear fashion. Combined with a slick six-speed manual gearbox, the driving experience is engaging in a way that modern turbocharged cars often struggle to replicate.

Handling is another defining trait. With near-perfect weight distribution and a rigid chassis, the S2000 offers sharp, responsive steering and exceptional balance. Early models gained a reputation for being demanding at the limit, but this only added to the car’s mystique among skilled drivers. Later revisions refined the suspension, making the car more forgiving while preserving its dynamic edge.

In recent years, the S2000’s popularity has surged as enthusiasts and collectors increasingly value analog driving experiences. As the industry shifts toward electrification and driver aids, cars like the S2000 represent a disappearing era. Its combination of reliability, motorsport-inspired engineering, and everyday usability makes it particularly appealing compared to more fragile or expensive alternatives from the same period.

Today, the S2000 stands as a modern icon. Limited production numbers, strong enthusiast communities, and a growing appreciation for Japanese performance cars have all contributed to rising values. What was once an underrated roadster is now firmly established as a collectible classic, proof that Honda’s engineering philosophy of precision and purity continues to resonate with drivers around the world.
