Hamilton’s F40 Dream Finally Hits The Road
Lewis Hamilton has fulfilled a long-standing automotive dream, adding a Ferrari F40 to his personal collection after previously selling his entire fleet of road cars. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion arrived at the recent Italian Grand Prix at Monza in the iconic 1980s supercar, creating a particularly fitting moment for Ferrari’s home race.

The purchase is especially significant given Hamilton’s decision in 2025 to sell his extensive collection, which included highly desirable Ferraris, Mercedes, McLarens and his bespoke Pagani Zonda 760LH. At the time, Hamilton explained that he had become more interested in art and famously singled out the F40 as the one car he would still love to own.
That wish has now become reality. Hamilton’s F40 is a remarkably low-mileage example that had reportedly spent more than three decades stored away after its previous owner drove it just a short distance from Maranello. The car has since received sympathetic attention from Ferrari’s Classiche department, preserving its originality while returning it to the road.

Few cars could be more appropriate for Hamilton. Produced between 1987 and 1992, the F40 was the final road car approved by Enzo Ferrari and remains one of the most celebrated supercars ever built, with just 1,315 examples produced. Hamilton’s particular car also carries an intriguing connection to its new owner, with its engine serial number reportedly matching his familiar racing number, 44.
For a driver who once owned a multi-million-dollar collection of some of the world’s most desirable modern supercars, the F40 represents something rather different. Raw, analogue and deeply connected to Ferrari’s racing heritage, it is less about collecting for quantity and more about owning one truly special piece of automotive history, making Hamilton’s return to car ownership a fitting one.
