Historic Riley MPH No. 7 Seeks New Owner

Few pre-war sports cars combine competition pedigree, rarity and distinctive styling quite like the Riley MPH. Developed from Riley’s successful racing programme of the 1930s, the MPH was effectively a racing car for the road, powered by a six-cylinder engine and featuring the low-slung, sporting character that has made the model one of the Coventry marque’s most celebrated cars.

This exceptional example is MPH No. 7, chassis number 44T 2255, first registered on 19 November 1935 to Stanley Hodgkinson of Botleigh Grange near Southampton, carrying the registration AOT 855. Unusually, the car was fitted with a more spacious Bertelli body, built by the coachbuilder associated with Aston Martin, and research by Riley specialist Robin Cameron suggests AOT 855 may be the only Riley MPH to feature Bertelli coachwork.

The car has enjoyed a fascinating history, passing through a succession of notable owners before crossing the Atlantic to California in 1964. It returned to Britain in 1974 and was subsequently acquired by collector Fuad Majzub, who commissioned Automobile Restorations to rebuild the car. Following years in storage, the MPH was eventually acquired in 2004 and underwent a full concours-standard restoration before being enthusiastically campaigned in Vintage Sports-Car Club events.

The Classic Motor Hub is also a long-term advertising partner of Classic Motors For Sale, and we are pleased to feature this remarkable Riley MPH among their current cars for sale. With its exceptional provenance, unique Bertelli coachwork and documented history, MPH No. 7 represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Riley’s most desirable and significant sporting models.

Del Boy’s Famous Trotter Van Heads To Auction

Few vehicles from British television are as instantly recognisable as the little yellow three-wheeled Reliant driven by Del Boy and Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. Now, one of the most significant vehicles from the much-loved BBC sitcom is heading to auction, with the original Trotters Independent Trading Co. van set to go under the hammer at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham on 15 November 2026.

1969 Reliant Regal 21E Supervan III | Estimate £30,000 - £40,000

The 1969 Reliant Regal Supervan III, registration APL 911H, was the first of several Reliant vans used during filming and has a particularly important place in the show's history. Finished in its famous yellow livery and still carrying the distinctive Trotters Independent Trading Co. signwriting, it appeared in all 13 episodes across the first two series, which aired in 1981 and 1982. Among its many memorable appearances was the classic A Touch of Glass episode, featuring Del Boy's infamous chandelier escapade.

The van has since been carefully restored by its current owner to recreate its early on-screen appearance, retaining the character and details that made it such an iconic part of the series. It is also being offered with a selection of Only Fools and Horses memorabilia, including a replica Harrison watch and the famous novelty £6.2 million cheque made payable to the Trotters. With an estimate of £30,000–£40,000, the Reliant is expected to attract attention from both classic-car collectors and devoted fans of one of Britain's best-loved sitcoms.

The auction will form part of the huge Iconic Auctioneers Classic Sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, which runs from 13–15 November at Birmingham's NEC. The sale, associated with Classic Car Auctions (CCA), will feature hundreds of classic, modern and retro vehicles, with the Trotter van among the most recognisable and unusual entries. The auction takes place on Sunday 15 November, with bidding also available online for enthusiasts unable to attend in person.

Classic Motors For Sale is also delighted to highlight the sale through our long-standing relationship with the auction team.
