Lucy. 1920 Fiat 501S
Ian Smith of Grantham acquired this car from a local farm near Grantham in 1958. He rebuilt her and drove her some 70,000 miles before his demise in 2012, just short of his 97th birthday.

I have known the car since the mid-seventies, so when Ian’s widow asked me to buy Lucy in 2014, I agreed to do so. Super little car, but the engine started getting noisier, so in late 2019 took the head off and saw that the gudgeon pin had scored bore no 2. On further examination, no 3 bore needed attention as well. Stripped the engine and completely rebuilt it, nothing was not renovated, during the following four years, even the springs were renewed.

She is a delight to drive and reasonably brisk with a 1322cc engine and four-speed box. She has been resprayed and has a dicky compartment as the boot. Just a beautiful fun car.
