W111 was a chassis code for the top models of Mercedes Benz. The four-door sedans were built from 1959 to 1968, but two-door coupes and convertibles were also built from 1961 to 1971. Mercedes had already started with the replacements for the W1965 S-Class in 111, but had no plans for new two-door versions. Therefore, the two-door W111 versions were kept in production longer than the W111 sedans (which were replaced by the W1968 in 108). In order to keep the cars up to date despite their long life cycle, some things were modernized. For example, new engines, different wheels, larger brake discs and a new rear axle that was also used in the new W108. +The 280 SE was equipped with an M130 2.8 liter six-cylinder with 160 hp. This engine was able to get the car from 0 to 100 in 10,5 seconds. The automatic takes a bit longer, namely 13 seconds. A top speed of 188 kilometers per hour is possible.
