Extremely rare Land Rover Series I Station Wagon 88. Only 60 of this type of station wagon with LHD and diesel engine were ever produced, and this is chassis number 59. In the past, a station wagon was much more expensive than a pickup due to higher taxes. This LHD Station Wagon is therefore quite unique on the market, as I haven’t seen another for sale. An iconic car with an incredible presence — British, rugged, and unpolished. The original weak diesel engine was previously replaced with a reliable 2,250 cc 4-cylinder engine with a five-bearing crankshaft.
The exterior is in very good condition; it’s clear the 88 has been mostly kept indoors and cared for by true enthusiasts. Don’t expect a shiny showroom car — this is not a car for polishers. The chassis has been restored, so the underside looks very neat. The new wheels are fitted with new 4x4 tires. The doors close properly, and there are authentic accessories, such as an extra spotlight near the windshield and a new Lucas reverse lamp. Additionally, there’s a new tow hitch with new mounts on the rear bumper and a new front bumper. The lighting has recently been renewed, and everything looks well maintained. Thanks to the beautiful blue paint and aluminum finishes, it’s a tough yet appealing vehicle.
The interior is also in neat, well-maintained condition. All seats were reupholstered in the past. The steering wheel and column are new, and a battery cutoff switch has been fitted. There’s also a Smiths oil pressure gauge and a new heater with fan. Thick new rubber mats have been fitted both front and rear. Under the hood, recent maintenance has been done, including new hoses and filters, and everything is neatly painted. A clean and tidy engine bay — just as it should be!
This 4x4 is ready to work for you like a border collie. No slope is too steep, no mud too heavy — it can handle it all. It was the favorite car of Queen Elizabeth, who was just as tough and fearless. It’s the ultimate relaxer and a strong workhorse. And now with a high cuddle factor. Originally delivered in Belgium, the mileage is readed.
