By now very rare diesel estate version from the Volvo 240 series. This series was launched in late 1974 as the successor to the Volvo 100 series. Externally, the model is so similar to its predecessor that they are difficult for a "layman" to distinguish. However, the number of technical improvements is large. Direct successors do not have the Volvo 240. The Volvo 700 series and Volvo 900 series, introduced in 1982 and 1990 respectively, operate in roughly the same segment of the market, and Volvo had hoped they would replace the 240. However, due to the initially disappointing sales of these series, Volvo continued to modernise and keep the popular 240 in the range. Only after the successful introduction of the revolutionary Volvo 850 did Volvo dare to cease production of the 240.
