When Willys Overland Motors decided to modernize the appearance of its offerings as the '40s were approaching, it was largely a "Hail Mary" move intended to energize flagging sales. But the results were met with an enthusiastic response, and consumers were drawn to the much more futuristic look of the company's new product line. Little did they know that the move would also inspire legions of modded car enthusiasts, who embraced the new cars as the foundations of countless aftermarket projects. This 1941 Willys Coupe serves as testimony to the design skills of its manufacturer. Dressed in Silver Ice Metallic paint and outfitted with shaved door handles, it gives off an unmistakably aggressive aura, and, with its robust drivetrain pairing with an all-fiberglass body and fenders, it features an outstanding power-to-weight ratio to back it up. The interior echoes the same theme, sporting a pair of aftermarket black and red bucket seats with pronounced bolsters for extra support during spirited driving, with a B&M ratchet shifter in between them. The dash area has been painted to match the exterior, with a Grant woodgrain steering wheel added to the mix that creates a nice contrast to its silver background. A full collection of white-faced aftermarket gauges is on hand, and a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo sits just to the right of them to attend to your audio requests. All the components for the air conditioning system are in place, and it runs on modern refrigerant, so it likely won't take much to get it blowing nice and cold again. This coupe is equipped to perform. It features a 350-cubic-inch V8 that's fed by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor perched on top of a high-rise manifold by the same manufacturer, and - with its weight-saving fiberglass body yielding an outstanding power-to-weight ratio - it doesn't take much imagination to picture the results. The addition of an HEI distributor and an aluminum radiator brings maximized spark and better temperature control. It rides on a Street Beast suspension with adjustable coilovers up front and air shocks in back, while power brakes with discs up front bring it to prompt, fade-resistant stops.
