Few Mercedes-Benz models are as iconic as the Geländewagen. Introduced in 1979, the "G-Wagen" evolved from a utilitarian, Steyr-Daimler-Puch–developed off-roader into an unexpected pillar of Mercedes’s model range. The original W460 established the brand's main rivals at Land Rover with the well-proven Range Rover. The early 1990s brought the pivotal W463 platform and, in 1994, the simplified "G-Class" name, aligning the model with rising expectations for comfort and refinement. With a more luxurious interior, a cleaner exterior, and permanent all-wheel drive enhancing capability, the G-Class emerged as a rare machine that blended prestige with true off-road strength. When Mercedes‑Benz introduced the next-generation G-Class in 2018, it marked the most significant overhaul in the model's history. The G-Class grew wider and longer, providing more interior space, while high-strength steels and aluminum reduced weight despite the larger footprint. Beneath the familiar boxy exterior, the suspension became fully independent, its steering was upgraded to electromechanical rack‑and‑pinion, and the chassis was stiffened for both on- and off-road performance. Inside, luxury leapt forward with the "Widescreen Cockpit" combining dual 12.3-inch screens, refined materials, and advanced infotainment. First registered on 27 March 2023, this Geländewagen was ordered new in Manufaktur China Blue, a color drawn directly from the original model's color palette from the early 1980s. Inside, the blue theme continues, featuring a two-tone Yacht Blue and Black Nappa leather interior, open-pore Manufaktur black ash wood trim, and active multi-contour seats. Also selected was the Manufaktur Interior Plus Package which included a microfiber Dinamica headliner, a frameless interior mirror, and an interior panel trimmed in Nappa leather. The exterior was optioned with 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, and the AMG Line added a stainless-steel spare wheel ring with a painted-in Obsidian Black center cover, side running boards, and black AMG floor mats. Rounding out the extensive options list includes the Burmester surround sound system, Assistance Package with Blind Spot Assist and Distronic active distance assist, Multibeam LED lights, trailer hitch with ESP trailer stabilization, and an auxiliary heater. Powered by a 2.9-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder diesel, it was rated at 330 PS and an astonishing 700 Nm of torque starting at just 1,200 rpm. With its compelling blend of power and diesel efficiency, this G 400 d has covered just under 58,000 kilometers at cataloging and remains in excellent condition today. The accompanying service book shows that it benefits from a recent Service A, completed in August 2025 at 54,000 kilometers. Offering a remarkable color scheme, effortless diesel power, and iconic status, no other luxury off-roader maintains the same appeal today as this G 400 d does, over 40 years since its introduction.
