Although to the cynic, the seventh-generation Impala was simply a Caprice optioned with the 9C1 Police Package, what those naysayers don't seem to understand is that, although there was no official ''swagger'' package, this 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS is far more than just the sum of its parts. With just 79,587 actual miles on its odometer since new. Fully repainted black, this SS shows off its de-chromed, blacked-out look. With a subtle rear lip spoiler, dual chrome exhaust tips, and sportier five-spoke wheels, this Impala embodies what it means to wear a Super Sport badge.

Inside, the sedan side of the sport sedan shines through with a comfortable grey leather interior featuring plush bucket seats separated by a center storage console. A padded and power-assisted steering wheel sits just in front of a five-pod gauge cluster, highlighted by a digital center speedometer/odometer. Easy-to-use analog HVAC controls sit just above the upgraded Sony AM/FM/AUX/CD player, complete with Bluetooth connectivity, while a tasteful Impala SS logo plate is mounted in between the two, serving as a subtle reminder that this is no ordinary four-door. Power seats, locks, mirrors, and windows, along with air conditioning and cruise control, offer up all the modern amenities available just before the turn of the century.

Under that big, swoopy hood, we find a healthy 5.7-liter LT1 V-8 engine. Differing from the LT1 found in the Corvette, the SS got iron cylinder heads mounted to a two-bolt main and a more torque-oriented camshaft. When it was new, the Impala SS pumped out an underrated 260 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, which was routed through a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission before being sent out to the ten-bolt rear, waiting to transfer those ponies to the pavement via those aforementioned five-spoke wheels shod in 255/50ZR-17 Hankook rubber.

Riding on a police car chassis that used a beefed-up suspension featuring DeCarbon gas shocks, stiffer springs, and a big rear anti-roll bar, this 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS was capable of running from 0-60 mph in just 6.5 seconds, according to Car and Driver, which is very impressive for a two-ton machine.
