Few muscle cars command as much recognition and notoriety as the Chevelle. One look at this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Tribute, and it's easy to see why this car has left an indelible mark on enthusiasts worldwide, despite being out of production since 1977. Fully repainted in a head-turning bright red complemented by a set of full-length black painted SS stripes to go along with its pinned cowl-induction hood, and blackout grille, this Tribute shows off the aggressive lines of the Chevelle from any angle.
Inside, we find a clean, redone black vinyl interior. A center console separates a pair of supportive bucket seats, complete with headrests. A two-spoke power-assisted SS steering wheel sits just ahead of a six-pod gauge cluster, featuring a 7,000-rpm tachometer and a 120-mph speedometer. An original-looking AM radio exists in its factory location, but really, the Hurst T-bar shifter with an easy-to-see shift pattern provides all the entertainment you need for any long drive.
Under the hood, we find a clean engine bay with a massive naturally aspirated 502-cubic-inch V-8 on display. Using GM Performance aluminum heads, a Fast EFI throttle-body injection setup mounted on an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, this bruising big block does away with exhaust gases via long-tube headers capped with sweet-sounding FlowMaster mufflers. If you really want to make a statement, then flip the switch for the dual electric cutouts and listen to what an old-school muscle car can really sound like. That massive power is routed through a Richmond Super T-10 four-speed manual transmission before being sent to the 12-bolt rear end, which translates those ponies to the pavement via a set of 15-inch powder-coated wheels shod in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
