The body shape common to all models was designed by the great Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone and was one of Giugiaro’s first major projects for the design house and drew significant inspiration from his earlier work on the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint and 2600 Sprint. The Alfa Romeo 105 and 115 series Coupés were produced by the Italian manufacturer from 1963 to 1977. They were based on a shortened version of the Giulia Saloon’s floorpan and served as successors to the Giulietta Sprint Coupé. In 1966, the Giulia Sprint GT was replaced by the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. The Sprint GT Veloce debuted at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966 and was later tested by the international press at Lake Garda. Production began in 1965 and continued until 1968, when the Sprint GT Veloce was succeeded by the 1750 GT Veloce.

The Veloce version of the Sprint GT is really quite rare to see on the road today and if you know Alfa Romeo you will know the name Alfaholics - the renowned Somerset-based Alfa specialists - and their ‘R’ programme of special in-house bespoke builds. The Giulia Sprint GT Veloce offered here evokes the GTA-R that they produce, complemented by many other specialist parts supplied by other leading Alfa experts. So, it’s a very special and cosseted Alfa indeed.

To start at the beginning, this Alfa’s Veloce provenance is verified by its Certificato di Origine (Certificate of Origin), issued in October 2020 by the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo in Milan. The certificate confirms that chassis AR243890 is an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce (105.36), built at Arese, Milan, on 18 April 1966 and delivered to its first owner in France just two days later, on 20 April 1966. When it left the factory, it would have worn Biancospino (Hawthorn White) paintwork, complemented by an interior finished in Skai Color Cuoio - a natural leather-coloured vinyl supplied by the original equipment manufacturer, Skai.

Fast-forward to 2025, and the Alfa now gleams in striking Giallo Fly paintwork with a Black interior, the GT Veloce having first been registered in the UK in 2020. Chassis number AR243890, a 105.36 series Coupé (.36 denoting left-hand drive), was purchased by its previous owner in Belgium in May 2020. Prior to that, it had already seen significant investment in Europe since around 2016, with upgrades and enhancements aimed at making it truly special. Once in the UK, it underwent further transformation, with more than £20,000 spent on additional upgrades and a comprehensive build that included body restoration - resulting in a unique and exciting ‘fast-road’ specification.

Today, the Alfa’s powerplant upgrade is a 2.0-litre Twin Spark engine from an Alfa Romeo 75. The donor AR06224 engine with its upgrades, including a Weber 45 carburettor, has previously been rolling-road tested at 151bhp at 5798rpm in 2021. The history folder must be seen to fully appreciate the specification, providing a detailed account evidenced by invoices of works carried out in Belgium, using Retro Rosso parts and in the UK from the likes of Alfaholics, and Classic Alfa.

The vendor has kindly provided us with a specification list that goes some way to informing an impressive array of features that set it apart:
