  • A very interesting example
  • Lots of nice parts on it
  • A very rare find
  • All the looks without the cost

Here we have a very interesting take on a Ford Escort MK1. The HPi tells us that it was an 1100 standard 2-door that was registered on 5/10/1972 and has had 8 owners since, the last since 2014. Being a 2-door, it lends itself to becoming a desirable replica proposition which is what has happened. In this case it has not gone the full rebuild, only a slight engine upgrade and some very nice cosmetics, which has many benefits- one being the price and the another is if you wish you can improve on it and go for the full RS specification with very little difficulty. It is finished in possibly the best RS colour of the day, Olympic blue, with the broad darker stripes, and sits on a set of RS 4-bar alloys, all giving it the appearance of an RS2000.

Within the paperwork, the vendor has provided a list of work / upgrades carried out:

“Olympic blue with decals
1300 GT engine specification
Shot blasted and etch primed prior to paint
Unleaded conversion, refurbished head, new valve guides and seats, double valve springs
Engine block re-bore to +30
Fast road camshaft new bearings
Crankshaft re-ground and new bearings
Electronic distributor, new cap and high-tension leads, sports coil
New timing chain twin choke Weber carburettor re-jetted to engine specifications
New 4 branch +2” sports exhaust
Gearbox rebuilt with new bearings
Diff rebuilt with all new bearings
Brakes all new pipes, braided brake hoses, new discs, new calipers (bigger front brakes)
Servo rebuilt
All new shock absorbers, lowering blocks on rear, bushes replaced
New steering rack
Wheels refurbished and powder coated, new tyres all round
Flat front headlights
Original front seats included
Battery cut off switch
Detachable steering wheel
New wings, front panel, door skins, rear panels, sills
Larger gearbox tunnel fitted
New headlining
Ran less than 100 miles since re-build ( due to health issues)”

We think you will agree that a lot of time and effort has gone into creating this Escort as it is now. This is a good-looking example with a huge potential, and we all know what MK1 Escorts are worth and how rare they are!

The Escort is offered with a selection of parts, the original front seats and various other bits and pieces, and a few invoices and receipts.
