The Triumph Stag, introduced in 1970, was envisioned as a luxurious grand tourer with a distinctive blend of performance and refinement. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, it boasted sleek lines, a graceful profile, and a unique T-shaped roll bar, which became its signature feature. Under the hood, the Stag housed a 3.0-litre V8 engine, renowned for its smooth power delivery and distinctive exhaust note. However, early models were plagued by reliability issues, particularly with the cooling system, tarnishing its reputation. Despite this setback, the Stag's elegant design and spirited performance endeared it to enthusiasts and, over time, retrospective solutions were found for the engine issues. Production ceased in 1977, with over 25,000 units built. Today, the Triumph Stag enjoys a cult following, cherished for its timeless styling and the allure of open-top motoring.

We are delighted to offer this 1976 Triumph Stag in Glacier White with black interior. First registered on 5th October 1976, the Stag was a demonstrator for James Edwards the Triumph dealer in Chester. In the summer of 1977 our vendor spotted the Stag revolving on a turntable in the showroom and fell in love with it. He has now owned it for over 48 years but sadly a combination of age and ill health has meant that it has been parked up since 2008. The original Passport to Service comes with the paperwork and contains 21 stamps, the last being in 1993 at 64,855 miles. There is a small bundle of invoices for parts and maintenance that follows and takes things up to 2007, shortly before it was laid up. The vendor tells us that the engine was rebuilt by James Paddock Ltd of Chester in the early Nineties but we have no documentation to support that. Given its long lay-up, we have not attempted to start it but we are told that when it was parked up it was running well. Clearly a full recommission will be required.

Our vendor has clearly stored this Stag well because its condition is remarkable when you consider its time off the road. There are some areas of corrosion here and there as you would expect with any British car from the Seventies and we would urge to peruse our full suite of photographs or even better take a look in person to make your own mind up, however, we doubt you will be disappointed. Although they are getting on a bit now, it’s pleasing to see a matching set of Michelin MXV tyres fitted - not cheap and an indication of how it has been cared for. The alloys themselves could do with the black sections touching up but appear free from any significant damage or corrosion. The hardtop too looks to be in good shape. Slung underneath is a stainless steel exhaust. The cabin presents very well and looks entirely original, right down to the steering wheel and stereo. The dashboard wood is nice and the black leatherette seats appear free from any rips and tears. The boot is clean and underneath the boot floor is a full size spare on a matching 5-spoke alloy. Under the bonnet, the original V8 Triumph engine looks unmodified.

The Stag comes with V5C, some old registration documents, a selection of old MOTs, a bundle of invoices, original handbook and Passport to Service, some old photographs, 3 sets of keys and immobiliser fobs and a Stag brochure.

Offered with no reserve, this Triumph Stag offers a rare opportunity to purchase a low mile, unmodified example that has been loved and cared for by one man for almost all of its life. It certainly could be a rewarding project for someone in the run up to the Summer show season.
