We are very pleased to offer this stunning looking Mercedes CLK 55 AMG Coupe finished in Obsidian black with two-tone black and maroon AMG interior - a fabulous looking combination! But it doesn’t stop there, that’s just the beginning. This beast has the Black Edition body kit which consists of the arches, rear bumper and diffuser, quad exhausts, and front bumper and diffuser. This is not the cheap kit, this is the Xclusive Kit which is better and more expensive, and when you look at it you can see this. It has steel inner rear wheel arches making the kit look like factory fit and not aftermarket. To compliment the look, it has recently had new shocks giving it that very purposeful muscle look, helped by being sat on 20” alloy which have a recent set of tyres fitted. The wheels were refurbished recently. To carry on even further, the AMG is fitted with 6 pot front brakes and 4 pot rear brakes adorned with red calipers and chrome quad exhaust tips poking out the back. As you may get the picture of its looks, it is only bettered by the noise it makes. It has that lovely V8 burble when it’s ticking over, but when the loud peddle is engaged - wow, what a noise!
The history is rather good, we cannot say complete but very good. The service book implies it was PDi’d by Mercedes themselves at their PDi centre, suggesting it was Mercedes owned from new, but we cannot confirm this. As it was registered on 16/4/2003, it was certainly one of the first on the road and, being an early example, was not quite as complicated as the later ones - always a good thing. The service book contains 10 stamps, a mixture of Mercedes and specialists, and the AMG enjoyed a service in October 2025 with one of the country’s leading Mercedes specialists, SPR Autos in Stockport. This is backed up with a host of invoices and receipts going well back showing service work and maintenance, with many thousands spent recently. It has had both rocker box cover gaskets replaced, as one was slightly leaking, so both were replaced to future proof. This is a known fault on the AMG V8 engine, but it is sorted on this one with Mercedes parts being used, and not aftermarket. It also comes with its full original book pack complete with all the relevant details you would expect, and a selection of older MOTs which sit very nicely with the current one valid until August 2026. The engine cover has been changed to improve the look, as the original one was a bit dirty, which gives you an insight to attention to detail this CLK has had.
To give you an idea how special these cars are, should you need one, after its introduction they were marketed by being featured as the official F1 safety car for the 2003 season. Praise doesn’t get higher, and there are not many cars that can claim that association. With a 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and a restricted top speed off 155 mph, this would give many a new car a run for its money. But it’s not all about performance, it is also its appearance that is simply stunning and let’s not forget that noise. Amazing!
On 28/12/2015 it was declared as an insurance category D, the vendor was assured by the previous keeper that the damage was to the headlight, front bumper and radiator, and that it was only cosmetic and not structural. It is believed that was when the kit and upgrades were completed. We are informed the heated seats and the headrests on the front seats don’t work, maybe a related fix, and that the parking sensor is a little over sensitive sometimes. Maybe it was a good thing that it was damaged, as we probably wouldn’t have before us this wonderful looking and rather unique AMG. It is special, not perfect, but very special, and we could say that there might not be another one like it with its kit, wheels, brakes and that noise. Even if you don’t want to buy it, it’s worth taking a closer look. A very special machine indeed!
PLEASE NOTE: This Lot is recorded on HPi as ‘Category D Insurance Loss. Vehicle Damaged But Repairable - Insurer Decided Not To Repair 28/12/2015’.
