  • Beautiful in many ways
  • Great attention to detail
  • Lovely factory specification
  • Great history

Here we have an opportunity to get yourself an Alfa Romeo 156, what’s so special about that you may say? Well, this is a bit different for a number of reasons; it is finished in bright red, which is very rare, and the only colour to have an Italian car in; it has only covered 31,000 miles; it is low ownership; it has a nice factory standard specification; it has that amazing 2.5 V6 engine; it has a great service history; and it has been in the care of a vendor who was fastidious about keeping it in top condition, which he has and all credit to him for doing so. This Alfa has even had many features on YouTube with rave reviews, and was on the Alfa Romeo stand at the NEC Classic Car Show in 2022 and at the Festival of the Unexceptional in 2022. The vendor has cherished this 156 whilst in his ownership, and it shows In fact, it has got better year on year.

The Alfa 156 was launched in 1997 making this an early example. Upon launch, it was voted ‘Car of the Year’ in 1998, a high accolade indeed. It kind of rocked the world of BMW, Mercedes and Audi and caused a few waves in offices all over Germany at the time, and some would say made the Germans pull their socks up and make their offerings a little better to compete. The vendor has supplied some great information as follows:

“Mr Frazer purchased the car from Edwards Alfa Romeo in Epsom, Surrey on the 25th June 1998. He part exchanged his 1990 Alfa 164 3.0 V6 against the new 156 and selected just one optional extra, which was the electric sunroof. The car does not have luxuries such as passenger side airbags, centre armrest or 3-point centre seat belt, which were all optional extras in 1998. The interior is grey velour trim with wooden steering wheel and wooden look centre console and gear knob. It is not fitted with sports suspension, side skirts or spoiler, and has 15-inch wheels. Many options were available but not selected.”

This gives you an overview of the history and goes on to say that it is completely standard bar a Wizard stainless steel exhaust system- a good thing to have anyway.

The history is lovely, with a service book containing 7 stamps complete with the full book pack and even the spare key. It has some of the original sales information from the day too. This is added to with a host of invoices and receipts, along with a selection of past MOTs, and information from the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club and details of the Alfa at the NEC show.

This is not your average Alfa Romeo 156, this is a very special and loved example with a great history, in beautiful condition, finished in bright red with that amazing 2.5 V6 engine. We could even go as far to say that there might not be a better example for sale in the country. But don’t take our word for it, come and take a look and see what you think, we are sure you will not be disappointed.
