Recently recommissioned following a period of storage, this MGB now starts on the button, the engine runs and it brakes, although the throttle cable is very loose and needs attention.
The MG itself is tired cosmetically with evidence of corrosion on most of the panels, although it does sport a set of Minilite alloys. The hood appears in decent condition and it has what looks like a stainless back box. The vendor advises that the B appears solid underneath.
The interior is a little aged as you would expect, and it is good to see what we believe to be the original seats still in place. The odometer is showing a shade over 54,000 miles although we have no way of knowing if this is correct - other than the last MOT fail in 2012 showing a mileage of 54,043 miles.
We understand from the vendor that this B is an early rubber bumper model that has been converted to chrome as it was first registered in March 1975, sometime after the launch of the rubber bumper models in Autumn 1974. It does appear to sit a little higher than a standard chrome bumper B.
The MG appears to have an exhaust blow which makes it sound even more rorty than a standard B.
Unfortunately, we have no documentation with the B, and the new owner will need to apply for a new V5C. It also appears from the HPi that the MG had a colour change in 2001 from gold to its present white colour.
Given the nature and its time in storage, we assume that further recommissioning will be required, although with the Spring and Summer just around the corner, this B could represent a shrewd purchase for someone who wants to use and improve it over time.
