We are delighted to offer this lovely looking Maserati 4200 Spyder, equipped with the Cambiocorsa semi-automatic transmission and finished in an exceptionally attractive Mediterranean Blue paintwork and complemented by Tan leather upholstery with Black secondary trim, a matching Blue fabric hood and contrasting Red brake callipers. It is a striking and elegant combination that suits it perfectly. The Maserati is supplied with its original handbooks and manuals, and a spare key.

The Spyder has been used very sparingly over the last 10 years and indeed has only covered around 3,000 miles in the last 3 years. The roof works as it should but does occasionally require a gentle push on one of the hood tensioning crossbars to fully retract. We believe this could well be due to lack of use but would warrant further investigation. The roof motor(s) and mechanisms appear to work as they should.

Introduced in 2001, the open-top 4200 Spyder made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with the Coupe following a year later in Detroit. The change in designation from the outgoing 3200 signified more than an increase in capacity; it marked a decisive shift in Maserati philosophy. The long-standing twin-turbo tradition was set aside in favour of a naturally aspirated, Ferrari-derived powerplant. The result was the magnificent 4.2-litre F136R V8, producing 385 bhp and endowing the Spyder with a 0-60 mph time of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed approaching 180 mph - refreshingly free of the electronic restrictions applied by some of its contemporaries.

Customers were offered an impressive range of personalisation options, from a wide palette of exterior colours to numerous interior leather shades, stitching details and hood colours. Among the most desirable factory options was the Skyhook adaptive suspension, transforming the character at the press of the SPORT button by sharpening throttle response, extending the rev limit and firming the suspension. When specified with Skyhook, the 4200 Spyder became a genuinely engaging driver’s car rather than simply a glamorous boulevard cruiser.

This example is an earlier, pre-facelift car and benefits from the highly sought-after Skyhook system, paired with the F1-inspired Cambiocorsa paddle-shift transmission. In SPORT mode, the gear changes are quicker and more purposeful, delivering a far more involving driving experience. Unlike some non-Skyhook examples, which can feel overly soft, this Spyder strikes a pleasing balance between comfort and control.

The Maserati has had 7 former keepers, and its history file includes copies of invoices from a number of respected names in the Italian performance car world, including Giallo, JCT600, Emblem Sportscars and The Supercar Centre. With just over 41,000 miles recorded, the condition and provenance are entirely in keeping with the mileage.

The service history is particularly reassuring, with substantial expenditure over the years. Notable entries include an air-conditioning system overhaul in 2014, hood mechanism work and interior leather refurbishment by Emblem Sportscars, and a significant clutch and roof ram replacement carried out by Giallo. A TerraClean decarbonisation treatment was undertaken in 2016, and a replacement key was coded by JCT600 in 2018.

In summary, this handsome Maserati Spyder represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a charismatic Italian V8 convertible with desirable specification and unmistakable presence. Few can match a Maserati for style, sound and sense of occasion, and this example offers all of that at a very accessible level of ownership.
