Here’s an opportunity that may never happen again, the chance to buy possibly the only one owner Scimitar available at the moment. This example was supplied new to an airline pilot by Hamble Motors in Southampton on 14/6/1978 who has kept it ever since. It would appear that the Scimitar went to Jersey first, as that was where he lived and where he flew out of at the time, before it came back to the mainland in 1984. We know this as we have the original invoice from new, which also tells us it cost the grand total of £6,006 (c.£45,000 in today’s money) including such extras as electric aerial, wash wipe, black wipers and headrests. It was a lot of money back then, as these were expensive cars back in the day - probably why Princess Anne was so fond of them and had a succession of them for many years.

The Reliant is finished in Celtic brown with beige cloth / vinyl interior. The interior is in remarkable condition and looks a nice period place to be. The paintwork has the usual paint dots on it, something you often get with cars made out of fibre glass, otherwise the paint itself is good. In the right hands, this is something that is easily rectified. The appearance is finished off with the Cobra Slot-style alloy wheels which were a feature on Scimitars of the time.

The paperwork is very impressive starting with the original invoice, a large collection of invoices over many years, all the auto issue V5s and even the original buff logbook and a host of previous MOTs. This is a very impressive history and something you don’t see very often to this level, even down to the owner’s handbook. All very proper and as you would expect from a one owner example. With a little bit of attention to the paintwork, this would be a car that would have no equal.

This is very much a unicorn of the car world and deserves to go to an owner who will cherish it as much as it has been already.
