Chassis No. AR3046420
Officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966 as simply the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, the open-topped two-seater closely resembled the sweeping Alfa Romeo Superflow in its design, which would undergo numerous styling changes over its nearly 30 years in production. Series 1 cars (1966-1969) featured the mechanicals from the 105-Series Giulia sedan, including its twin-cam inline-four engine in 1.6 and later 1.8-liter displacement. Numerous styling changes appeared on Series 2 cars (1970-1981), with the Spider's distinctive “boat tail” revised to a Kamm tail for improved luggage space along with another increase in displacement to 2.0 liters.
This Series 2 Spider Veloce was initially delivered new through Archway Motor Imports of Manchester, Missouri, with its window sticker listing a total suggested retail price of $7,425. Said to have spent roughly three decades in indoor storage, the Spider later surfaced showing approximately 11,000 miles and was acquired by a New Jersey-based caretaker in 2022. A mechanical refurbishment carried out within this ownership reportedly included resurfacing the cylinder head and installing a replacement head gasket, refinishing the exhaust system, resealing and repainting the fuel tank, and fitting a starter relay, along with replacement of the fuel pump, ignition points and condenser, thermostat, and clutch slave cylinder. The braking system was also refreshed with a replacement master cylinder, overhauled ATE calipers, and resurfaced rotors, while the 14-inch Campagnolo alloys were mounted with fresh 165-series Michelin XAS tires.
Now attractively presented in Grigio Metallizzato over black vinyl with a black canvas top, it shows 10,521 miles at the time of cataloging and is offered with its window sticker, factory literature, and an Alfa Romeo-branded hood bra-ideal for relaxed, top-down touring.
