Trophy Vehicle Build No. 002
Originally built as a Series III Five-Door “Station Wagon,” this 1988 Land Rover Defender has been completely transformed in the hands of Rover Trophy. The Bridgeport, Connecticut company's Trophy Collection lists a number of Land Rover variants among them, but none so versatile as their Long Wheelbase D110 Soft Top model. With seating for up to eight, the completely reworked and hand-built Defender merged the rugged looks and backbone of the famous Defender with a modern flair of bespoke refinement.
This particular D110 Rover Trophy Soft Top, noted as 002, is perhaps the epitome of the company's ethos. Built from a sandblasted and powder-coated chassis, the body, with numerous new components including its doors, hood, fenders, and bulkhead, is finished in Oslo Blue. The exterior is trimmed in Wimbledon White with matched 18-inch Custom Trophy Honeycomb white powder coated rims shod with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Baja Champion tires. White Fire and Ice side steps clad with honey-colored wood tie into the freshly fitted mohair canvas soft top with zip-up windows.
The Rover Trophy's bespoke interior is trimmed in hand-sewn Saddle Bag Brown leather and optioned with custom teak interior flooring and a larger entertainment system. Standard amenities are plentiful and include Ministry of Defender air conditioning, Speed Hut custom gauges, and a Kenwood entertainment center with Apple CarPlay with eight-speaker surround sound for the fortunate forward-facing occupants seated in custom-designed captain seats again in Saddle Bag Brown leather. A full accounting of the impressive standard features list is accounted on the Rover Trophy window sticker produced by the company that totals an impressive $245,000.
Rover Trophy offers a selection of engines for their Trophy Collection build, with 002 fitted with a powerful 6.2-liter GM Performance LS3 engine that produces 430 horsepower-360 more than the 2.5-liter diesel engine fitted when new. This immense power is fed through a GM 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission and cooled by a double pass custom aluminum radiator. Additional drivetrain components include a dual-range V8 LR transfer case, Tom Woods prop shafts, Salisbury rear differentials, and heavy-duty axles.
Completed in January 2023, the clean CARFAX for the Rover Trophy shows the current owner acquired the powerful bespoke truck in late 2023 and it features 2,392 miles since its transformation at the time of cataloging. Imbued with custom craftsmanship, modern performance, and open-air versatility, this D110 redefines the classic Defender.
