  • Fabulous patina
  • Family owned for 30 years
  • Mechanically well maintained
  • If ever there was a survivor, this is it

Introduced in March 1982, the Morgan 4/4 was equipped with the Ford 1597cc CVH engine, paired initially with a four-speed gearbox before benefiting from the adoption of the Ford Sierra five-speed transmission in 1984. By 1985, the model gained the wider wings of the Plus Four, enhancing its already purposeful stance. Production of this particular generation remained modest, with approximately 1,652 examples built up to November 1991.

Offered here is an example that can only be described as utterly captivating - rich in character and steeped in history. Finished with a patina that simply cannot be replicated, it immediately commands attention. ‘Wow’ scarcely does it justice.

The ownership history is both reassuring and evocative. The first two custodians cared for the Morgan from new until 1996, when it was purchased from Morgan agents Lifes Motors by Mrs Rosemary Gillman. Pleasingly, the history file retains the original bill of sale issued to Mrs Gillman in October of that year. It remained in her devoted ownership for two decades before passing to her son in 2016, a testament to its status as a cherished family possession.

As one might expect of such long-term ownership, this Morgan has lived a full and interesting life. Its exterior presents a wonderfully honest patina - beautifully weathered and full of stories - while a closer inspection reveals an example that belies its appearance. Mechanically, it is reported to be in fine fettle, ready to be enjoyed from behind the wheel exactly as its makers intended.

The grey leather interior echoes the exterior’s charm, displaying a well-used but appealingly authentic finish that complements the overall character.

Recent maintenance has included a comprehensive service, with attention given to key items such as a new cambelt, water pump, spark plugs, rear brake cylinders and fresh rear axle oil, ensuring it is well-prepared for continued use.

Stand a short distance from this Morgan and it draws you in; step closer and its personality becomes irresistible. It is, without question, a remarkably genuine example and a true survivor of the marque.

Whether to restore or to preserve is a question often posed with examples of this nature - but in this instance, the answer may lie in simply embracing it as it stands: an honest, charismatic and highly usable classic.

Opportunities such as this are seldom repeated.
