First registered in Jersey, this delightful Midget began life in a vibrant yellow, enjoying a brief early spell on the island before relocating to the mainland within its first year. Over time, it passed through a small number of enthusiastic owners before benefiting from a full and carefully executed restoration, believed to have taken place in 1999. As part of this work, a brand-new Heritage bodyshell was fitted and the Midget refinished in its current, eye-catching Flame Red - a colour that suits its character perfectly.
Since then, it has been tastefully enhanced to further complement its classic sporting appeal. The addition of Minilite-style alloy wheels lends it a purposeful yet period-correct stance, while a replacement steering wheel and subtly lowered front suspension contribute to a more engaging driving experience without compromising originality.
The accompanying history file is particularly impressive and adds greatly to the desirability. Included are the V5C, detailed notes compiled by previous keepers, and an extensive run of MOT certificates dating back as far as 1979. The original MG Passport to Service booklet is also present, showing service entries between 1976 and 1986 at 49,157 miles. A substantial collection of invoices and receipts charts ongoing care and maintenance from the 1970s onward, while period photographs provide a fascinating visual record of the MG’s journey through the years.
Today, the Midget presents superbly well. The paintwork retains a rich and glossy finish, a testament to both the quality of the restoration and the care it has received since. The interior is equally pleasing, offering a clean and inviting space. A minor mark to the bonnet is noted for accuracy, though it is barely noticeable and does little to detract from the overall charm. Further highlights include a chrome boot rack that enhances its classic touring look, a hood in excellent condition with clear Perspex windows, and a neatly stored tonneau cover. The Midget also sits on a matching set of Michelin tyres, reinforcing its well-maintained nature.
The odometer currently reads approximately 8,500 miles, which is believed to correspond to around 108,500 miles in total based on the supporting MOT history. Importantly, it has covered very few miles in the past two decades, suggesting careful, occasional use and adding to its appeal as a cherished classic ready to be enjoyed.
