The SSR - or Super Sport Roadster - was first shown in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show in 2000. Featuring retro-styling, a retractable hardtop, and a pickup truck bed, it was produced between 2003 and 2006, with a total run of 24,112. Sales were unfruitful at the time, despite mammoth marketing efforts - including the use of an SSR as the pace car for the 2003 Indy 500 - meaning these models are very rare indeed, especially in the UK. All SSRs included luxury leather-trimmed bucket seats as standard, while teak decking for the rear cargo compartment was optional. Under the bonnet sits the six-litre V8 engine used in the Corvette C6, producing up to 390bhp, and coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission.
This Power Red example was purchased by our vendor two years ago. An enthusiast of all things American motoring, one SSR was not enough, so he purchased two. This red version is the higher mileage of the two, however at 48,000 there are plenty more miles to enjoy. If you're after practicality, performance and wind-in-the-hair, there probably isn't a better car to combine the three. Well-maintained and in excellent condition, this is a car that will leave heads turned and jaws dropped wherever you go. Consigned by Charlie McCreery
