1979 Mercedes - Benz 350 SL
£13,000.00 | €14,898.35 | $17,218.02

Introduced early in 1971, and the replacement for the 280 SL 'Pagoda', the R107 generation SL remains one of Mercedes' most recognisable and stylish models. Although considerably longer and heavier than its predecessor, the R107 retained many of the Stuttgart marque's hallmarks; proportionally, the car is reminiscent of the Pagoda, and shares a similar grille, which also recalls Merc's legendary Gullwing 300 SL. Mechanically, the R107 utilised independent wheel suspension using double wishbones and anti-drive control at the front and a diagonal swing axle at the rear. The R107 shape eventually became one of Mercedes' longest-running models, produced until 1989, a remarkable eighteen-year production run.

The 3.5 litre V8 found in this example sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission, propelling the car and its passengers to a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. The SL, however, was never intended to be a purely out-and-out sportscar, and its optional hardtop ensured year-round usability. This example is supplied with its original matching hardtop. The copper/bronze paintwork is radiant and ensures that this SL oozes period-correct perfection, complemented by a recently re-trimmed cream leather interior. The 3.5 litre V8 runs smoothly, and with a fresh MoT test certificate, this SL is ready to conquer the continent. Consigned by Charlie McCreery
