The Land Rover Series II 88-inch pickup is, for many, the quintessential embodiment of the Series Land Rover - its unmistakable silhouette and utilitarian charm defining an era of British engineering. Constructed with Land Rover’s renowned modular aluminium bodywork, they were built for purpose and longevity, most commonly seen with either a full-length canvas tilt or in open pick-up form.

This particular Series II has recently emerged from long-term barn storage, where it is understood to have resided for in excess of 14 years. Its running condition prior to storage is unknown, and the engine has not been turned or tested since its rediscovery.

The interior presents as largely original, retaining its period instrument panel, heater unit and switchgear. Notably, windscreen wipers and the central gearbox tunnel cover are absent, while both footwells show evidence of prior repair. The door tops appear to be later replacements and remain in commendably good order.

A visual inspection of the chassis and outriggers suggests a structure that is reassuringly sound, with no immediately apparent signs of significant corrosion. The original Bronze Green paintwork has mellowed attractively over time and continues to present well, with the body panels appearing straight and free from any major blemishes or indeed dents.

The galvanised tub cappings, though refinished in silver at some stage, have likely benefitted from this protection and remain in respectable condition. Under the bonnet, the engine bay is complete and consistent with the honest patina, with components appearing intact and correctly situated.

To the rear, the load bed is clean and serviceable, although the canvas tilt has deteriorated beyond practical repair and would require replacement.

Altogether, this charismatic and highly sought-after Land Rover, having just nine recorded keepers from new, offers an appealing opportunity, whether as the foundation for a full restoration or for sympathetic recommissioning into a usable and characterful classic.
