The Vespa model named VS5M was officially presented in 1961. The engine is similar to the previous GS 150, but the main new features concern the brake department, updated with ventilated drums, new brake and clutch levers, a ring-shaped storage hook in front of the seat, and a speedometer with a white background and 120 km/h full scale.
