This particular example presents a unique and highly individual take on the iconic model. While visually inspired by the aggressive 2002 Turbo, it was never intended to be a replica. Instead, it is a thoughtfully engineered and carefully restored car, built to a very high standard using a combination of genuine BMW components, period-correct aftermarket parts and remanufactured items created from original drawings where necessary. Previously owned for some 13 years by an experienced engineer with BMW UK and in Germany, the car benefitted from a meticulous programme of restoration and enhancement carried out over several years. Genuine BMW parts were used wherever possible, including the distinctive Turbo-style arches, air dam and rear spoiler, complemented by details such as an Autoplas rear window louvre and twin Weber DCOE carburettors.
Mechanically, the car is equally impressive. It features a new cylinder head, port-matched to an Ireland Engineering manifold, a pair of Weber 40 DCOEs, a Schrick 292-degree camshaft and a full stainless steel exhaust system. The suspension and braking systems have been comprehensively rebuilt, with refurbished subframes, polyurethane bushes, Bilstein dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars from Ireland Engineering. Accompanied by its original sales invoice, handbook and a comprehensive history file, this beautifully presented 2002 has also formed part of The Continental Performance Collection, a curated assembly of significant European performance cars, further underscoring its appeal as an engaging and usable modern classic.
