Estimated Price: £40,000 - £50,000
The Mercedes-Benz R107 SL is one of the most enduring and iconic models in the marque’s history. Produced from 1971 to 1989, it combined elegance, robustness and grand touring comfort in one package. In 1986, the model underwent a significant update, including a revised range of engines, improved suspension and crucially, the introduction of a galvanised body shell – greatly improving corrosion resistance. These later cars, often referred to as ‘facelift’ models, are among the most sought after, particularly in six-cylinder 300SL form, offering a balance of smooth power delivery and relative economy.
First registered on 13th September 1989, this UK-supplied, right-hand drive, R107 300SL is finished in Almandine Metallic (5120) over Cream MBTex (175), a colour combination offered only towards the end of R107 production. According to accompanying correspondence, the car was manufactured on 28th July 1989, placing it amongst the final examples built
Following acquisition by our vendor in 2023, the car was entrusted to marque specialists The SL Shop for an initial health check, corrosion inspection and subsequent programme of restoration and rectification works. Invoices on file indicate expenditure of £52,205 during 2023/2024, covering extensive structural repairs, bare-metal preparation and repainting, replacement floor pans and sill sections, bulkhead fabrication repairs, hard top repair and repainting, suspension and drivetrain works, glazing and further recommissioning works. Importantly, it's supplied with a 'bulkhead certificate' issued by the SL Shop.
There are over 100 photographs documenting the restoration on a 'pen drive' in the accompanying history file alongside the original service book and supporting documentation. Original first-supply items include the roof tools, fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and matching factory hardtop.
In current ownership for three years with just two former registered keepers, the odometer indicated 101,988 miles at the time of cataloguing and the current MOT is valid until April 2027 with no advisories recorded.
Most recently, the car was serviced in March 2025 at 101,936 miles, less than 60 miles ago, by the SL Shop, at which time a new distributor was fitted. In addition, a period-style replacement audio system incorporating Bluetooth and DAB functionality was installed, along with new speakers and an aerial. The original radio and distributor are retained and accompany the car. Total expenditure by the current owner over a three-year period is understood to be £56,191.
Overall, this example presents as a restored, late-production R107 in a rare factory colour, supported by significant recent expenditure and offered at less than the current vendor’s outlay over the past three years. We encourage your inspection at our Iconic Sale at Supercar Fest 2026 to appreciate the quality on offer.
