The Jaguar Mark IX was a large luxury saloon car produced by Jaguar Cars between 1959 and 1961. Standard transmission was a 4-speed manual system; options included overdrive, but most cars, including this, were built with a Borg Warner 3-speed automatic box. Internally, an enlarged-bore 3.8-litre, 220bhp double overhead cam straight-six fuelled by twin SUs replaced the previous 3.4-litre unit of its predecessors. Four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating-ball power steering were now standard equipment and the torsion bar independent front suspension and leaf-sprung rear live axle were retained from the Mk VIII.

The body was generally similar to its predecessor, but the sunshine roof became a standard fitting for the UK market. The interior was in the same luxurious mode with extensive use of leather, walnut wood trim and deep pile carpet.

The car's Heritage Certificate confirms that it was finished in Black and Sherwood Green with a Suede Green leather interior and was despatched from the factory on the 12th February 1960 to distributor Henlys Ltd., of London and onward to its first owner, Wintex Ltd. of Baker Street W1.

The Jaguar has been restored in the past by renowned specialist, Doncaster-based M&C Wilkinson and remains matching numbers and in near concours condition some twenty years on. Owned and truly cherished by our vendor since 2013, it has resided in France and only recently returned to the UK and to quote, ‘never missed a beat’ over the 300 mile trip.

Naturally after an M&C Wilkinson full restoration it was Highly Commended Champion of Champions JDC in 2003/04 and has featured on the cover of The Jaguar Drivers Magazine. The comprehensive history file contains records of many of the owner changes, registration changes and a full documentation of the maintenance program over the last 20 or so years. The toolkit is period correct and complete including the grease gun.

Built at a time when Jaguar was firmly tilting at Rolls-Royce's crown, this majestic Jaguar is simply stunning and would be a joy to own in this condition.
