The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, universally known simply as the ‘Evo’, has become one of the defining performance saloon lineages of the modern era. Produced across ten generations between 1992 and 2016, each iteration was fundamentally based around a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, close-ratio manual transmission and Mitsubishi’s advanced all-wheel drive system. In many respects, it established itself as the benchmark 'Q car' of its generation, capable of humbling far more exotic machinery while retaining everyday usability.
The Evo VII saw the introduction of Ralliart UK’s ‘FQ’ (Factory Quick) programme, the first official use of the branding for Mitsubishi’s flagship performance saloon in the UK market. Developed primarily to homologate key competition components for Mitsubishi’s continued rally programme, the Evolution VII marked a significant technical step forward over the outgoing Evo VI. Central to this was a revised drivetrain and chassis package, most notably the introduction of an active centre differential system working in conjunction with an improved limited-slip differential setup, including a front helical LSD, all designed to further sharpen traction, stability and response on varied surfaces.
Power came from Mitsubishi’s 2.0-litre turbocharged 4G63 four-cylinder engine producing 276bhp and 284lb/ft of torque, mated to a close-ratio 5-speed manual gearbox. In FQ-300 specification, the Evo VII delivered 0 to 60mph in around 4.5 seconds.
Many Evos of this era were heavily modified, used in competition or driven hard as intended, making truly original, low-mileage examples increasingly scarce. First supplied new in March 2003 by UK importer Ralliart, this example is an FQ-300 variant and carries car number #155. It is accompanied by a comprehensive history file which includes its original service book, handbooks and documentation pack, alongside numerous invoices confirming consistent maintenance carried out at correct intervals and by official agents throughout its life.
Now showing just over 13,800 miles from new, the car has also been recently serviced and benefits from an MOT valid until 23rd March 2027. Finished in Phoenix Red, the exterior retains a deep, consistent shine and is complemented by the correct Blue Hessian and Grey Alcantara Recaro interior, which remains in exceptional condition throughout, consistent with the recorded mileage.
Now firmly established as a modern performance classic, the Evo VII FQ-300 occupies a particularly desirable position within the range, combining usable power, early FQ significance and genuine motorsport heritage. In this level of originality and mileage, it represents a particularly rare opportunity to acquire one of the most well-preserved examples of Mitsubishi’s most celebrated performance saloon.
