Introduced in 1979 as a joint development with Austria's Steyr-Daimler-Puch, the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen earned its cult reputation through engineering integrity and an uncompromising silhouette that has scarcely changed in four decades. The Type 463 chassis arrived in 1991, and by 1998 the lineup was topped by the G 500, whose 5.0-liter M113 V8 developed 296 PS in the marque's most rigorous platform. The three-door short-wheelbase variant-marketed as the short Station Wagon-was always the connoisseur's choice, produced in vastly smaller numbers than its long-wheelbase counterpart and prized today for its handsome proportions.
Built on 16 December 2004 and delivered the following day through Daimler-Chrysler's Düsseldorf operation in the Rhine-Ruhr area, this short-wheelbase G 500 was specified in Pearlite Gray Metallic (747U) over a Black (040) leather interior, accented with burr walnut veneer trim and a matching leather-and-burl wood steering wheel and gear lever. Following a one-day Tageszulassung registration to Daimler-Chrysler AG, the car passed to its first private owner, who retained it from 2004 until 2012. The current consignor acquired it in July of that year, integrating it into a larger private collection where it has since accumulated only 93,790 kilometers from new. The most recent service was carried out approximately two years ago, and the car will benefit from modest recommissioning to return it to fully sorted form.
