- Previously undersealed underside that appears solid
- Current V5C
A more desirable ‘round rear wheel arch’ (RWA) iteration of the Midget, ‘TTH’ was first registered on 4th October 1972. The history books say the square arch was stronger in rear impact tests necessary to pass the 5mph US Federal requirements that went into effect from 1975. Or, to put it another way, it was more economical to go back to the square rear arch than it would have been to add enough reinforcement to the rear of the car to make the round (RWA) pass the test, so, back to a square-off rear arch it was. Whatever, the RWA body of 1972-1974 has a lot of fans amongst MG enthusiasts. Leaving the factory in Orange. A colour change to British Racing Green was recorded with the DVLA in 2015.
Whilst a great colour for a Midget, the paint does show age-related imperfections, including marks, touch‑up areas and a few small dents, while the underside appears solid with some underseal applied. Inside, the car is trimmed in Black vinyl with Red piping. Some cosmetic customisation has been carried out over the years, including the addition of checker‑plate‑style panels on the dash. Other modifications include Mini‑lite‑style wheels, a Ripspeed rocker cover and brightwork sill covers. We’re told the gearbox is in good order and, on arrival, it did not display the typical first‑gear rattle often heard on Midgets. The odometer reading of 25,781 may not reflect the actual mileage the car has covered.
This is a chance to acquire one of the more desirable round‑wheel‑arch Midgets. These cars can be lively, entertaining machines to drive, and many enthusiasts say that looking over the bonnet and out past the slightly raised wings is reminiscent of the view from behind the wheel of a 911. For similar charm at a fraction of the cost, a Midget offers enormous fun, strong parts support and a welcoming community. It also provides an excellent platform for adding your own personal touch. The current owner has had the car since 2022, and it is supplied with a current V5C registration document.
