At Gallery Aaldering, we believe that everything about a Ferrari revolves around passion, drama, and boundary-pushing performance. You see it in an original Ferrari 288 GTO, and you feel it just as intensely in this sensational Ferrari 328 GTS. There is certainly no shortage of exclusivity or history here. One glance through the registries makes that immediately clear. This specific car is officially listed in the registry of Matthias Urban, a globally respected and widely followed Ferrari historian and expert. That alone gives this Ferrari a documented and unmistakable place within the international Ferrari community.
A Masterful Transformation by Jim Carpenter
Think what you will, but this conversion was executed with astonishing, almost frightening precision. In 1987, this Ferrari 328 GTS—originally delivered new in Germany in 1986—was transported to legendary Ferrari specialist Jim Carpenter in Phoenix, Arizona. There, the car underwent an extraordinarily expensive transformation to full 288 GTO specification. The engine conversion alone reportedly cost an astronomical $150,000 at the time. Carpenter used virtually nothing but original Ferrari components throughout the process. This is one of only nine examples worldwide fitted with the sensational 550-horsepower twin-turbo V8 mounted longitudinally for optimal weight distribution and balance.
Thanks to an exceptionally low mileage of just 2,000 kilometers and the fact that this car spent many years cherished within a prominent collection, this Ferrari remains in truly outstanding condition. Calling this car impressive would actually be an understatement; it is an absolute opera su ruote—an opera on wheels. The wide and aggressive GTO bodywork, complete with the iconic rear-quarter louvers, is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing and attracts attention everywhere it goes. The stunning red paintwork, the specific GTO interior, the glass, and the iconic wheels are all presented in magnificent condition.
Driving this machine is an intense, almost intimidating experience. The moment the tachometer needle sweeps past 4,000 rpm and the twin turbos come alive, you are treated to a symphony of pure speed and sensation. The engine opens its melodic throat and sings with brilliance, aggression, and astonishing volume. This is not a car for the faint-hearted; this is 550 horsepower in an ultra-lightweight chassis. Quite simply, it is magnificent. Grande!
