Introduced as the final evolution of Porsche’s long-running front-engined transaxle lineage, the Porsche 968 is now widely regarded as one of the marque’s most underrated modern classics. Combining near-perfect weight distribution, strong naturally aspirated performance and exceptional usability, the 968 represented the ultimate development of the 924 and 944 platform. Produced in comparatively limited numbers and offered for only a short production run between 1991 and 1995, manual Cabriolet examples have become increasingly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Presented in black with a contrasting light grey leather interior, this 1993 Porsche 968 Cabriolet is a particularly impressive and exceptionally well-kept example of Porsche’s final and most developed transaxle sports car. Offered with the highly desirable manual gearbox, the car presents in superb overall condition and is accompanied by an extensive and remarkably comprehensive history file documenting decades of specialist maintenance, servicing and enthusiast ownership.
The exterior presents extremely well, with the black paintwork displaying a deep and consistent gloss finish throughout. Panel fit and overall presentation appear strong, while the factory-style Cup alloy wheels complement the car perfectly and retain the correct period appearance. The electrically operated hood is fitted in black mohair-style material and appears in very good condition both externally and internally, with the roof mechanism operating correctly.
Inside, the cabin is especially impressive for both age and mileage. The light grey leather sports seats remain exceptionally clean and supportive, with the rear seating area, carpets, door cards, dashboard and centre console all presenting in notably well-preserved order. The interior retains a highly original feel throughout and reflects careful long-term ownership and maintenance.
The car is supplied with an outstanding history file including a large quantity of invoices, maintenance records, specialist workshop receipts, MOT history, Porsche literature and stamped service documentation. The accompanying maintenance booklet contains numerous service entries and stamps from both Official Porsche Centres and respected independent Porsche specialists throughout the car’s life.
Early servicing was carried out by Official Porsche Centres including Douglas Cameron Porsche and Town & County Porsche Aberdeen, with later maintenance entrusted to highly regarded specialists including Portiacraft, Porschons, Jaz Porsche and La Rose Porsche. The service book shows regular servicing from low mileage onwards, helping support the car’s excellent long-term maintenance history.
The accompanying invoices and workshop records document substantial expenditure over many years, with works including routine servicing, cambelt inspection and replacement work, water pump replacement, engine mount replacement, suspension attention, brake servicing, steering rack and power steering repairs, ABS sensor replacement, clutch hydraulic work, wheel refurbishment, roof-related repairs and replacement control arms.
Further documented maintenance within the history file includes attention to oil leaks and seal replacement, including front engine oil seals, cam housing and balance shaft sealing work, oil cooler housing seals and associated engine maintenance. Additional invoices also reference corrosion repairs, body refinishing and cosmetic improvement work undertaken during previous ownership.
The car also benefits from accompanying Porsche literature and enthusiast material, including Porsche 968 manuals, workshop documentation, Brooklands Porsche 968 reference books and various maintenance-related paperwork accumulated over the years. Included with the vehicle are fitted protective covers together with a boot-mounted luggage rack, both highly desirable touring accessories which complement the grand touring character of the 968 Cabriolet.
Now firmly established as one of the most usable and rewarding analogue Porsches of the 1990s, the 968 continues to gain recognition among collectors and enthusiasts. Manual Cabriolet examples in this condition, accompanied by such a detailed maintenance history and extensive supporting documentation, are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
