First registered in the UK on 13th July 1973, ‘BBN 360L’ was specified with a manual gearbox. A letter from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirms the car was manufactured at Canley, Coventry in August 1972. Presented in red with a tan interior, ‘BBN’ is said to start and run well and was driven to our fixed auction venue. In terms of ownership, the current keeper has retained the vehicle since 1994.

A ‘transport confirmation’ within the history file confirms that the vehicle was acquired by the current owner as a non-runner. This may help explain the low mileage recorded during earlier ownership; however, the mileage is not warranted. That said, odometer readings indicate limited use since 1988, as supported by MOT certificates (showing 6,785 miles in 1988 and 26,029 miles in 2018). The recorded MOT mileages are as follows: 8,467 in 1989, 11,430 in 1990, 12,446 in 1992, 12,953 in 1993, 13,430 in 1996, 15,089 in 1997, 17,957 in 1999, 18,473 in 2001, 19,643 in 2002, 20,093 in 2003, 20,714 in 2004, 21,172 in 2005, 21,558 in 2006, 21,773 in 2008, 21,810 in 2009, 21,939 in 2010, 22,365 in 2011, 23,102 in 2012, 23,375 in 2013, 24,465 in 2014, 25,045 in 2015, 25,715 in 2016, 26,013 in 2017 and 26,029 in 2018.

Inside, the carpets are said to be in good condition, as are the seats, which are believed to have been re-trimmed around 1998 (at the point of the engine overhaul). The dashboard wood has some fading, and there is a crack to the dash top. The car sits on wire wheels and, externally, the paintwork is described as good, albeit with some imperfections, including minor marks and evidence of panels having been painted at different times. On a basic inspection, no rust is evident, and the door gaps and sills are reported to be good, as is the manual soft-top hood. In terms of brightwork, most of the chrome presents well for its age, although the front bumper shows signs of pitting and would benefit from attention.

Maintenance and upkeep have included a professional restoration of the chassis and body in 1995. The engine is understood to have been overhauled in 1998 at approximately 15,000 miles. This work is said to have included a rebore to +20 thou, a balanced crankshaft, a lead-free cylinder head conversion, a metering unit, and numerous new or reconditioned components, including a Bosch fuel pump conversion and an alternator.

The paperwork is comprehensive and includes the current V5 registration document along with a previous V5, supporting the ownership history. It is also accompanied by restoration photographs documenting the work undertaken, a collection of previous MOT certificates, and a selection of parts invoices and receipts. Restoration invoices are also included, further evidencing the work completed on the vehicle.
