Introduced at the October 1972 Turin Motor Show, the twin-cylinder Fiat 126 remained in production for 28 years. From 1987, it gained water-cooling and more angular styling, making it quieter and more spacious than the Fiat 500. It was also produced under license in Poland.
The BIS designation, meaning revised or second edition, referred to the later liquid‑cooled version of the 126. It featured a rear-mounted 704cc engine with a side-mounted radiator and benefits from a proper hatchback design. This Fiat 126 BIS is one of those produced by FSM under license.
First registered on 1st August 1988 in the UK, this BIS is finished in Yellow with a Black vinyl interior, and the vendor describes its overall appearance as ‘good’. The mileage cannot be verified, although from the MOT history, it hasn’t recorded more than 500 miles since 2006.
Recent maintenance work includes a replacement brake master cylinder, brake wheel cylinder, brake adjuster, and fresh brake fluid. The car also has a valid MOT, new chrome bumpers, a recent colour change from white to yellow, a refurbished interior, and new tyres.
In terms of paperwork, the vehicle comes with a V5 registration document, an MOT certificate, and invoices for recent work carried out. Although the HPI record has not yet been updated to reflect the colour change from White, the new V5 confirms the car is now registered as Yellow. An off-the-radar 1980s Supermini classic with truckloads of character!
