Launched on 10th July 1990, the Mini Cooper RSP (Rover Special Products) marked the long-awaited return of the Cooper name to the Mini range after a 21-year absence. Produced in a limited run of just 1,650 examples, with 1,050 allocated to the UK market, the RSP was conceived as a special project to gauge demand for a revived Mini Cooper. The response exceeded all expectations, with every car effectively sold before reaching dealership showrooms, prompting Rover to resume full-time Cooper production. Powered by a 1275cc A-Series engine fed by an SU carburettor, the RSP combined lively performance with the engaging driving experience that had made the Mini Cooper a legend. Distinctive features included twin spot lamps, unique RSP Minilite alloy wheels, body-coloured wheel arches and mirrors, a sunroof, 'John Cooper' bonnet decals, a red leather-trimmed steering wheel and a three-clock binnacle with green-faced dials. As one of the final performance-oriented carburettor Minis and the model responsible for re-establishing the Cooper name, the RSP occupies a unique place in Mini history and remains of one of the most sought-after classic Mini models.
This Rover Mini Cooper RSP was originally supplied by Tristar Motors, Croydon on 28th September 1990 and is presented in the iconic combination of British Racing Green with a contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes. Currently displaying 32,425 miles, the Mini boasts three owners from new and has been cherished by its latest custodian for the past fourteen years. During that time, it has covered a mere 2,000 miles and has been carefully garage stored when not in use. Years of careful ownership and indoor storage have clearly paid dividends, with the Mini appearing well preserved and presenting beautifully. Newly serviced and MoT'd, it is accompanied by a comprehensive history file including the original handbooks and service record. Consigned by Stewart Banks
