We are delighted to offer this wonderfully characterful 1985 Volkswagen LT28, a rare straight-six manual example presented with fascinating television and film provenance spanning decades.
Finished in classic white coachwork, this highly recognisable LT28 has been in the same ownership for approximately 25 years and has become a familiar sight within British television and film production circles thanks to its authentic period appearance and versatility on screen.
Most notably, the van featured prominently in ‘This Is England 1990’, where it appeared as the infamous ‘kidnap van’ used during one of the series’ most memorable scenes involving the character Combo, portrayed by BAFTA-winning actor Stephen Graham. The VW also played a major role in the acclaimed four-part drama ‘ANNE’, written by Jimmy McGovern and centred around the Hillsborough disaster. For this production, the van was temporarily painted red to suit the storyline and its Liverpool-supporting character owner.
In addition to these major appearances, the LT28 has also featured in numerous other productions as both background dressing and action support vehicle over the years, giving it genuine screen-used provenance rarely found with commercial vehicles of this era.
Powered by Volkswagen’s robust straight-six petrol engine and paired with a manual gearbox, the LT28 was renowned for its durability, load-carrying ability and dependable engineering. Today, surviving examples, particularly early straight-six variants, are becoming increasingly scarce and are gaining popularity among collectors, enthusiasts and camper conversion fans alike.
The odometer currently displays approximately 19,000 miles, although this mileage cannot be verified. The van is supplied with a selection of old MOT certificates and supporting paperwork helping document its long-term history.
Importantly, this is not an over-restored example, but an honest and usable period van with real charm and presence. Its wonderfully utilitarian styling, sliding side door and unmistakable 1980s commercial vehicle aesthetic make it hugely evocative of the era.
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuinely interesting and highly recognisable Volkswagen commercial with substantial television and film history.
