Few cars deserve the description time-warp quite as convincingly as this outstanding 1976 Datsun 260Z. Offered directly from a long-term private Collection and showing just 37,267 recorded miles from new, this highly original, right-hand drive example represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most authentic and carefully preserved Z-cars we have encountered.
Supplied new by Datsun Broadwater Ltd on 1st August 1976 to Mr M Willis of Burgess Hill, West Sussex, the car was driven home to Sussex and remained in the care of the Willis family for decades. Enjoyed regularly during its early life and subsequently dry-stored as part of a small private Collection, the 260Z was maintained with evident care and sympathy throughout its existence.
Following a period of reduced use from the early 1990s onwards, the decision was taken in 2022 to comprehensively recommission the car for renewed road use. The work was entrusted to renowned Datsun specialists, Fourways Engineering of Kent, and included extensive mechanical refurbishment. The programme encompassed a full brake overhaul, major service, carburettor rebuild, cylinder head removal and machining, replacement inlet valves and valve guides, renewal of various bushes and bearings, together with preparation for MOT testing. The resulting invoice totalled £10,381, with further servicing and maintenance subsequently undertaken by Fourways in 2022 and again in January 2024.
Presented in its original and highly attractive combination of Silver Metallic (306) coachwork with a black interior, the car remains wonderfully unspoilt. The paintwork displays well, complemented by an interior, engine bay and luggage compartment that all reflect the remarkably low mileage. Equally impressive beneath, the car benefits from a period Ziebart treatment applied from new, documented within the accompanying paperwork and undoubtedly contributing to its excellent structural condition today.
The history file is particularly impressive and contains the original sales invoice, warranty and service booklet, owner's handbook, period Datsun sales literature and an extensive MOT record. Also accompanying the car is its original factory toolkit, appearing largely unused. Whilst the V5C records four previous keepers, these entries effectively represent members of the Willis family, with just one subsequent custodian, who retained the car within his own private Collection.
Beautifully preserved, superbly documented and retaining a level of originality seldom encountered today, this exceptional 260Z stands as a tribute to the care of its long-term owners and offers collectors the opportunity to acquire one of the most genuine and appealing examples of Nissan's iconic sporting coupé.
