2007 Chevrolet Corvette C6
“ A cracking looking car, and one that's been well cared for. ”
The C6 Corvette is a rare sight in the UK and a bright red convertible one with big, chromed alloys is always likely to turn more than a few heads. The C6 was a surprisingly sophisticated offering considering its raw and muscular lineage. Those in the know consider it to be a surprisingly enjoyable car to use on a regular basis.
Background
The sixth generation of the mighty Corvette, the C6, arrived to a universally warm reception in 2005. The European debut was at the Paris Auto Show of that year. It was an obvious evolution of the C5 which was generally considered a very good thing. So much so that some enthusiasts would refer to the new car as the C5.5. The transaxle layout, hydroformed chassis philosophy and much of the suspension architecture of the earlier car were mostly carried forward but, of course, much had changed too.
The C6 was almost five inches shorter than its predecessor despite its wheelbase having increased by an inch or so. This helped make the car look trimmer and more athletic with that most desirable “wheel at each corner” look. The C5’s front and rear overhangs hadn’t made the transition but the most obvious aesthetic change, perhaps, were the C6’s headlamps. For reasons of simplicity and weight reduction the pop-up headlamps that had been a feature of the Corvette family since the advent of the C2 in 1963 had been replaced by more conventional items.
There was more good news under the skin with the C6 now featuring the LS2 6-litre V8 engine with a power output of 400bhp and a neatly equivalent 400Ib-ft of torque. This endowed the C6 with a mighty midrange which is just what is required for that “fast everywhere” character so emblematic of a small-block American V8 muscle car. Over 215,000 C6 Corvettes would be built between 2005 and 2013 but the number coming to the UK from new was an almost imperceptible fraction of this – probably in the 100 – 200 range. The minority of this tiny fraction are thought to be the impressive convertible variant.
Overview
This stunning and eye-catching example hails from 2007 and is one of those rare examples registered in the UK from new. In fact, for a 20-year-old car, this Corvette boasts one of the most straightforward provenances you are likely to find.
The first keeper acquired the car in November 2007 from dealers Stratstone in Park Lane, London. The C6 attracted a list price in the UK at that time of around £55,000. The first keeper retained the Corvette for a full 18 years covering just 33,000 miles in that time. During the first keeper’s tenure the car spent some time in Italy with him. The Corvette has been diligently maintained throughout its life. A new hood was fitted together with a new heated rear screen whilst in Italy.
The current keeper is a personal friend of the original owner and a private car collector. The peerless, known provenance of this Corvette made it a highly attractive proposition. As such the Corvette passed into its second and current ownership in June 2025.
