2010 Jaguar XK Portfolio
“ A stunning example of a modern sporting Jaguar, cherished by its Marque enthusiast owner. ”
Of course, the supercharged X150 XKs tend to hog this model’s limelight somewhat. However, it is the naturally aspirated Gen III engine that will prove to be the sweet spot for many. 385 brawny British horsepower proves absolutely loads for today’s crowded British roads and the torquey but still hard-edged character of this engine perhaps suits the civilised GT continent crossing ethos even better in the real world.

Background
When Ford acquired Jaguar in 1989 it is fair to say there was much to do. One of the first matters Ford turned to was the meandering and rudderless XJS replacement project in the shape of the XJ41/41 prototypes. Ford still understood the urgent need to replace the XJS, however, so design work started afresh in late 1991. Ford were keen to double-down on their retrospective take on future Jaguars and were determined to evoke the spirit of the beloved E Type in a way that the XJS notably failed to do.

Under Ford’s strict oversight and by utilising some underpinnings from the XJS, the XK8 (X100) was announced in March 1996, an almost unprecedentedly short development period for a, mostly, new car. Launched in Coupe and Convertible iterations the XK8 was well received from the start. The family resemblance to the E Type was obvious but respectful and the fitment of the all new 4L, 32 valve AJ-V8 engine represented a statement of real intent by Jaguar.

The MKII evolution of the XK8, codenamed X150, was launched in 2005 and now just referred to as the Jaguar XK. The car was noted for its modern all aluminium construction and its even more obvious E-Type adjacent design cues including a quite faithful homage to the earlier car’s “Sayer nose.” By 2009 a facelifted X150 was in the showrooms now utilising an updated AJ-V8 Gen III 5-litre engine. Over 27,000 X150’s were built between 2005 and 2014 when it was discontinued without a direct successor.

Overview
Whist those healthy production numbers speak to the relative ubiquity of the X150, this superb example is a different kettle of fish. Firstly, it sits within a sweet spot in the X150 lineage being a naturally aspirated 5-litre XK in range topping Portfolio trim and boasting a stunningly low original mileage. As well as all the sophisticated refinements that its Portfolio status bestows, this XK is finished in the rare and sublime Caviar livery. Caviar was exclusive to the XKs in 2010 and is a beguiling iridescent hue that appears somewhere between a deep black and a bold burgundy depending on the light under which it is viewed. No official figures are available but it certainly one of the rarer XK liveries.

This example was supplied new by Minster Jaguar of York in May 2010. A further two keepers and approximately 13,000 miles would cover the period up to June 2014 when the XK was placed into the current family’s ownership. Since then, only a further 14,000 miles or so have been added to that modest total. In February of this year the car’s ownership was transferred within the family bringing the keeper tally to five in total.

With the XK today presented in a condition commensurate with the family’s view of it as “a special car,” it comes with a full Jaguar dealer and specialist service history and is perfectly placed to delight its next lucky keeper.
