- Rudge motorcycles were renowned for their engineering innovation and racing pedigree, especially during the 1920s and 1930s
- The 500cc Rudge Super Sports (often referred to simply as the Rudge 500 Sports) was one of the most advanced British motorcycles of the period
- Built by Rudge-Whitworth of Coventry, it was a fast, technically sophisticated machine that bridged the gap between a road bike and a racing motorcycle.
- The four-valve layout was a major selling point, offering better breathing and allowing higher performance than many contemporary 500cc singles. Rudge’s racing success helped prove the design, including Graham Walker’s famous victory in the 1928 Ulster Grand Prix at over 80 mph. That achievement was so important that the 500 Sports evolved into the celebrated Ulster model
