1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396
£94,457.59 | €109,006.71 | $124,998.00

INTRODUCTION: A big block, 4-speed, and factory air conditioning! That's a combination you rarely see. This is also a genuine Super Sport with its numbers matching 396, build sheet and a host of desirable factory options. Restored to a very high standard while retaining its authentic character, this Chevelle offers the perfect blend of investment-grade appeal, muscle car performance, and top-down cruising enjoyment.

EXTERIOR: The body and paint on this Chevelle are absolutely amazing. My hat's off to whoever painted it because the workmanship is outstanding. Every square inch of the body is laser straight, the contours are crisp, and the panel fit is precise throughout. I did not find any signs of rust, damage, bubbles, or issues of any kind. The car has been repainted red and the finish has been polished to a smooth, glossy shine. Even the door jambs are finished with a slick, glossy appearance. The chrome and trim sparkle throughout, and much of it appears to have been replaced during the restoration. The windshield and weatherstrips were replaced too. The black power convertible top looks fresh and fits properly. Completing the look are the N96 mag style hubcaps wearing reproduction Firestone redline tires that feature radial technology.

INTERIOR: It is loaded with desirable factory options and has a great blend of originality and restoration. Between the bucket seats is the original center console complete with a working clock and the correct chrome 4-speed shifter rising from the floor. Ahead of the driver are factory in dash gauges, complemented by the “knee-knocker” tachometer mounted below the dash. The tilt steering column is topped with a deluxe two spoke steering wheel, adding both comfort and style. It still retains its original AM/FM radio in the dash, but you'll likely enjoy the upgraded stereo system discreetly hidden inside the glove box. Another nice feature is the factory seat belts front and rear, which were still an extra cost option in 1966. Accessory floor mats help protect the carpet. Overall, the interior presents as a combination of very well preserved original features and quality restoration work. The seats have been recushioned and reupholstered for a fresh, comfortable feel. The door panels and armrests have been replaced, and the black metal trim throughout the interior has been refinished in a glossy finish that really stands out. Completing the package is a fresh boot cover for the convertible top, giving the interior a clean, finished appearance when the top is down.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: This is chock full of good stuff, and best of all, at the heart of it is the original VIN # matching 396 producing 325 horsepower. It is dressed with the correct manifolds, valve covers, and air cleaner assembly, giving it the authentic look collectors appreciate. It's also very well optioned with factory air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes. The air conditioning system has been serviced and is blowing cold. The power steering system features the correct remote reservoir setup, just as it did from the factory. An under hood lamp is also in place, a nice detail that's often missing. The engine bay presents beautifully throughout. The metal surfaces have been refinished to a show quality standard, actually glossier than factory, and they really stand out. The alternator looks fresh, the hoses are secured with reproduction clamps, the hood insulation is in place, and the windshield squirters are hooked up. All the components have a proper, detailed appearance.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb area, the paint is so slick and glossy it looks like it was wet sanded and polished. Inside, the compartment is finished with a durable spatter paint coating. It comes equipped with both a reproduction trunk mat and a custom cut carpet mat, giving you the choice between factory appearance and added protection. It is complete with a jack assembly and spare tire, plus a functioning trunk light for convenience.

UNDERSIDE: Underneath is exceptionally clean with floors that appear to be original metal and are as dry and solid as can be. It is equipped with the desirable F41 suspension package, including front and rear sway bars and boxed rear control arms. Air shocks have been added in the rear to provide a slightly more aggressive stance. The steering, suspension, and brake systems have all been gone through and are functioning properly. The emergency brake is hooked up and operational. It features a great sounding dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, and the fuel tank has been replaced. Looking up at the drivetrain, the engine is clean Chevy orange and presents very well. It is backed by a period-correct Muncie 4-speed transmission and a 12-bolt rear end. Overall, the underside is highly detailed, clean, and reflects the quality of the restoration throughout the car.

SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected, test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for sale.

CONCLUSION: It's not often a muscle car convertible comes along with a big block, 4-speed, and factory air conditioning. Add in this car's authenticity, outstanding condition, and desirable options, and you have a truly rare opportunity. Chances are slim you'll find another one quite like it anytime soon.
